Its funny how people enjoy intense flavors in small doses. This has been proven over and over again in different tasting experiments. However, give them 12 cans of the same stuff to enjoy, and those intense flavors can get very challenging and punitive after several cans.

The ultimate balance is trying to make something interesting and dynamic, but not too challenging for it loses its functionality. In the past five years or so, the tolerance the American beer drinker has for intense flavors (everything from bitter, sour, boozy, and spicy) has increased exponentially.

Guinness used to be a challenging beer back in the day - now its ultra-pedestrian, along with many other beers that once considered to be challenging. The bar has been raised!

Jack are there any styles of beer that you gravitate towards where you look to have your palate challenged? Fwiw that Polish smoked beer you sent us had some more intense flavors - but in the end, was great because of its subtlety!

Shane, below is a list of beers that I have homebrewed this season which are not BA popular beers (e.g., not IPAs, Imperial Stouts, Barrel Aged beer, etc.)
    • Wit (I brew this batch once a year)
    • English Bitter Ale (I brew this batch once a year)
    • Oatmeal Stout (I brew this batch three times a year)
    • Kolsch (I have brewed this once a year for the past 5 years)
    • Cranberry Belgian Pale Ale (second time I have brewed this beer)
    • A Pale colored Kellerbier (first time I brewed this beer)
    Cheers!

    Jack

P.S. I intend to rebrew the Grodziskie once Wyeast gets around to productizing the Grodziskie yeast that received from Stan Hieronymus.

Admittedly, Anderson Valley K,Y+HG, does spit beer out on the floor when you crack it, every single time. The blood orange isn't quite as bad, but does overflow, I can't remember if Westbrooks does this.

I do respect Sixpoint for consciously making a beer that does not do that, even if it doesn't bother me.

    Shane,

Thanks for sharing that video; it was awesome!

I have not read the book yet but I did attend Stan's presentation on How to Brew like a Monk at last year's NHC. I will be attending this year's NHC and I hope that Stan will be presenting again.

    Cheers!

"MCSlammeredBoo, what a let down. Old Pro is far and above better than this lawnmower
and what flavor(s) were you desiring that you did not taste?"

Ok sixpoint, I was desiring to taste sour and salt, it was barely either one. I like your brewery, but this gose tastes like ass. I feel like you half-assed this beer. Union, victory, Anderson valley, just to name a few, are much better, each one different, but all three still salty and sour, unlike jammer. I gave the rest of my 6 pack to a friend who doesn't like sours.....if that says anything. This beer isn't bad, it's just not a good gose and I didn't want it taking up room in my beer fridge. I wish you would reimburse me for the five I did not drink, but that would be admitting defeat, and I'm sure you and many others think I'm dead wrong anyway. Maybe just take it as constructive criticism and revamp it down the road when the general consensus becomes that it is indeed, not sour enough, then you can make jammer 2.0. Ok, that's my opinion on the matter. Keep doing good stuff, love resin and Bengali

Almost pulled the trigger on this today but 13 bucks for a 6 pack of beer that has a 77 rating is not happening. Sucks as this is the ONLY gose on shelves in Pensacola, Fl and I've never tried one. I don't want to be turned off of a style because of a bad representative on the first try, though.

I was finally able to try this and while it's not my favorite sixpoint offering, it's still another quality beer. I will say that it was a bit more clear and a bit more subtle in the flavor department than I was expecting but all of the different aspects combine to make a perfect companion to a hot summer day. I'll be drinking more of this for sure, if I can find it!

any beer that is cold and non-agitated should not spit beer out onto the floor every time...including the highly carbonated styles like hefeweizen and wild ales...if that is happening every time there could be a problem with the beer...fyi

We are delighted to say you are in luck, we will be bringing this around again for you to enjoy.

Don't let others influence your buying decision - keep in mind when Citizen Kane was first released, it got horrible reviews. IT was not until years later when the New Wave critics picked up on it was it considered one of the greatest movies of all time.

yeah, and thanks for doing that!

we are going to keep the clarity - flavors will be intensified, we are going to nail this @Pisthetaerus

$13!? Damn man. That's the retail location jacking up prices. Shouldn't be any more that $10.

Had Jammer on tap and in cans. Ended up buying another 6pk. Great beer for the summer. Perfect for an 80 degree day by the pool. Could be saltier...

I hear ya. If I find it on tap I'll give it a go. What makes this beer so expensive?

@Sixpoint Did I read somewhere (can't find it now) that you re-formulated Jammer to make it saltier and more sour for the second batch? I still have not seen any around here......funny.

I have to agree with those who were unimpressed with Jammer. Got a single from Total Wine and tried it with a friend the other night. The sour and salt barely registered for me. I've had both versions of AV's Gose and also a local brewery's version (Ghost Pepper Gose) and I guess I prefer a more pronounced sour and salt flavor.

I can see people liking this beer for it's light, refreshing quality, but for me it is almost flavorless. I still enjoy other beers by Sixpoint but I won't be purchasing this version of Jammer again. I'll try a 2.0 if they up the sour and salt.

Sixpoint, you got another vote for Jammer 2.0. Jammer isn't a bad beer, but the way it drinks, no way I'd spend money on it. It was more like a generic American wheat with a touch of salt. Not really what I want in a gose. I think some on the market are a little too sour, but I want at least a little tart punch with a gose.
