Haha. I'll bet just about anything you know the answer to that one!

Anyone caught in our restaurant attempting to mix our beer with sugary, food-colored, artificially flavored stuff, soda, or lemonade will be asked to leave.

Well, I'm 99% sure I know your answer to the Radler question, but my question about the syrup was an honest one -- because that is/was the way most Berliner Weisse is drunk. The only times I asked for it straight in Berlin, the servers pretty much thought I was crazy!

A Google image search confirms your experience:

    Interesting:
"The style has been given Protected Geographical Indication within the EU, where it may only be applied to beers brewed in Berlin. There are a number of American and Canadian brewers who make a beer of similar style and give their product the Weisse label.[2]"

I've had that experience too, but I'm not sure how much the experience of drinking Berliner Kindl these days has to do with keeping faith with the style.

I never realized this. Maybe this is why nobody in Germany makes one - people outside of Berlin aren't "allowed to".

In fairness, the unflavored stuff is sold in bottles right next to the red and the green, so I imagine people do buy it, although maybe it's so that they can flavor it themselves, I don't know. I've never tried to order a plain one in a restaurant.

Alkoholfreies Bier seems to be the biggest $ maker for a lot of breweries here.

Well, the pre-mixed stuff has only existed for around 15 years. When I lived there, they only sold the unflavored stuff by the bottle. Still, never saw anyone (other than myself and my roommate) drink it straight.

They don't have it anymore (at least not on their online menu), but you used to be able to order a "Berliner-style weiss" at the Schnieder Weissesbrauhaus in Munich. It's just their blonde weizen with a shot of raspberry syrup tossed into it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Would you consider adding other flavours to a berliner weisse or is it just himbeer and waldmeister that are out?

His prior post was pretty clear:

"Anyone caught in our restaurant attempting to mix our beer with sugary, food-colored, artificially flavored stuff, soda, or lemonade will be asked to leave."

    Cheers!

What about all-natural Himbeer and Waldmeister? Not too different from grapefruit peel, coffee, etc. in that respect. Would a Grapefruit Berliner Weisse be OK?

I am personally content to wait and see what beers are available at Stone – Berlin in 2016.

I suppose it is ‘good’ that some BAs are so anxious that they need answers now!?!

Cheers to Greg Koch for starting this thread!!

If it's made by Freigeist, I'm OK with it. This was excellent: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10574/106549/ What's the difference? It's artistry!

I will likely be over there in Summer 2016, so, yes, I'm interested in what I may find.

No difference as far as I'm concerned. How about all-natural grapefruit or lemon sodas to mix beers with? My wife and her family -- and millions of other Germans -- all love Radler. When I went with them to Spezial in Bamberg, they even ordered Rauchbier Radler.

I am saddened to hear that such a thing exists. Count me in with the anti-Radler crowd.

Also, big kudos to Stone for donating proceeds to charity. Germany definitely needs more of that kind of thing.
