Super pumped on Beret. Obviously there are batch to batch variations, but does anyone know if Beret is "b3 BWXII", or is this beer simply inspired by BWXII?

I guess I will know for sure once I taste it :grinning:

A few differences based on the descriptions:
    1) BWXII was aged in wine barrels, while Beret is aged in oak barrels of indeterminate origin.
    2) BWXII used the Hottenroth culture while Beret uses the Bruery's "collection of barnyard bacteria."
    3) Beret specifically mentions "a small dose of pureed raspberries" which might be less than was in BWXII.

In theory, it could be the exact same beer but considering it's cheaper than BWXII, I'm assuming Beret was aged in second or third run barrels and probably has less fruit.

I would agree with this statement, but looking forward to a 750 ml sour/wild ale at the 14.99 price point minus the discount for us reserve and hoarders members !

Did they change the pickup date for allocations released today? 99.99% sure it said available for pick up 6/1 when I checked at 10am. Now it says available for pick up 6/8.

It's interesting how attitudes about the Bruery's blends seem to ebb and flow. They got no end of shit for Bois Fume and Smooth Criminal, yet Melange #12 (Melange 3 with adjuncts) and Flanders Giant (a blend of undisclosed beers) have people excited. I realize that there are some differences in the two situations (namely, exclusivity and a lack of Smoking Wood in the new blends), but people got tremendously anti-blend for a while last year.

I'm not sure if it's a matter of a lot of the more vocal critics dropping out, the tone of Bruery discussions being more positive in general, or simply the specifics of the beers involved, but it's quite a shift from where things were in early 2014.

I'm not extremely excited about the #12. I tried the one at the anniversary and it was just ok. Also, #10 as much as it was good, it just needs to be a stout (I know, popular opinion)...so I won't be buying any before I try it. Althought the Flanders Giant was great at the anniversary. I didn't even know it's a blend, I was under the impression that it's a bourbon aged flanders

I dunno, it was tarter than the Flanders Giant I just had side by side with it and I didn't get much of anything but a little cacao. Maybe I got a mispour but I'm not turning around to find out.

Meh. These beers are starting to taste the same. Could have been Chocolate Rain. Could have been Grey Monday. It was sweet, it was boozy. It lost me after my taster, though it did get better to me after it warmed a little bit.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad to me, but I don't think there was anything standout-ish about this.

Just had to tasters of the 12 today it's solid. The 12 at the bruery festival was a spiced variant, I wasn't a fan of the spices, but the base 12 was good. Flanders also good.

How's the Hottenroth w/Peaches tasting? I remember it tasting pretty good at the Terreux launch, interested to see if it's developed any more fruit character.

I can't decide if that's sarcasm or even vaguely serious, but for $9.95 per month, I'd be happy to sell you a subscription to Xul's Daily Posts to keep you informed and/or give you more content to make fun of, as you see fit. I'll even throw in thoughts on current events and releases in metal for free.

Back on topic, can anyone who's hitting Society Member Monday post some actual tasting notes on Melange 12 and Flanders Giant? All of the previous feedback on Flanders Giant was through the lens of a taster pour at a beerfest and the posts on Melange 12 so far have been both divisive and ambiguous. I don't expect a multi-page review but I'm specifically curious about the following:
    1) They said that some barrels for Melange 12 were up to 22 months old, does that show through as complexity, oxidation, or does the base taste roughly the same as any other Bruery blend?
    2) On the adjunct front, do the nibs, nuts, and beans work harmoniously with what sounds like Melange 3? Or is it taking M3 in the direction of an adjunct-heavy BT variant as @elzacharino suggested?
    3) Any comparisons for what Flanders Giant tastes like? I'm guessing it's some combination of Oude Tart + White Oak Sap + ?? @mattolesh said earlier he doesn't think there's any Anniversary in there, perhaps it's just those two beers, but how does the combination work?

Can't speak to Melange 12 yet, but Beret is a blessing! Can't wait to sip on this with my boys this summer, and year-round. Some very nice subtle funk with an underlying raspberry jamminess that compliments the oakitones from the barrel-fermentation. BWII who?
