SC distributor got the most supply for sure. Remember, that distributor covers two states now. They only covered SC last year. People need to stop assuming the brewery shorted SC. The brewery supplied more than last your to the distributor.

I should have been more specific. I meant it didn't last in Charleston/at the brewery this year.

So I guess NC didn't get any.

I've been told NC is seeing 10 cases. I'm not sure about kegs.

Probably true. This is looking like it will be one of those "you get 6 bottles per bottleshop" type of distribution. Oh well.

Used to be called Lazy Dog Growler but they changed the name because they want to start franchising. It's a block or two from Rookery, at First and Poplar.

Pro tip: You can order anything as a half pint if you aren't up for paying $14 for a pint of Imperial Biscotti Break or some other expensive beer.

Can someone tell me if this ages well. The bottle I had was way too hot/spicey. Huna and bomb I enjoy drinking fresh and are extremely balanced. To me this is not. Do not see the draw unless it becomes more balanced with age. Opinions?

it loses the spice heat as it ages and then a more pronounced chocolate flavor comes out (at least for last years batch). I opened my last 2014 bottle on Cinco de Mayo so it was almost a year old. It was still excellent, but different.

Do not age Mexican Cake. The bottle says this as well. If you choose to do so, don't let it go past 6 months.

The whole point of Mexican Cake is the spiciness. If you age it just becomes a crappy version of Huna.

Well IMO it's not good. Why would I want my throat to sting through a whole beer? If I want that I'll just pick up a ghost face killa. I poured it down the drain. Bring on the comments :sunglasses:

You weren't aware that it was a spicy beer? The label reads: "Malt beverage with cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon, and habanero peppers added." And it also says it again in the desription: "...and fresh habanero peppers." But if it is too spicy for you, just wait a couple of months and try it again.

From my understanding Thirsty Monk got the only keg of Mexican Cake in NC, and it was part of one of their Asheville Beer Week festivals.

Another one might pop up, but that is what I have heard.

Have been aware yea. But like I said in earlier posts. I enjoy bomb and huna fresh. I just assumed the other ingredients added would even it out. Balance you know. Guess I shouldn't assume those things in the future. It was an ok beer. Just won't seek out again. Great thing about beer. Everyone is different. Happy I tried it though

I did a 3 year vertical back in January. 2014 (9 months old) was great, all the flavors were balanced nicely. 2013 was good but DEFINITELY NOT worth aging that long. All the flavors that make mexican cake so special were muted. 2012 was borderline disgusting. I cellared all 3 at 51 - 52 degrees the whole time. you definitely do not want to age this beer.

It's a bit spicy fresh, certainly nowhere near hot. It's the best pepper beer out there not barrel aged by far. Don't age as it turns into Bomb.
