Anyone know where I can find the Backcountry IIPA down in the southern area? Parker/HR? Based on these comments I need to try it.

Check Lukas and Davidson's. Per a pretty good source they either did or will probably get some.

What makes a beer "best"? For an IPA does it have to be hopped beyond any other? Balanced and drinkable? Great use of a different hop?

Here are a few that we've had on tap that we got great feedback about... all from small Colorado breweries.

    Bootstrap Insane Rush IPA
    Echo Mirror Image
    Telluride Fishwater IIPA
    Pike's Peak Elephant Rock IPA
Odd 13 Hanuman (single hopped with Zeus)
River North Hoppenberg Uncertainty Principle (a Belgian Double IPA)

Just nabbed a fresh bottle of Backcountry Double IPA tonight and damn. I agree, that beer is fantastic!

Comrade Superpower is fantastic (I rank it right up there with Pliny and some of Alpine's great beers). Also, Superdamp which is their fresh hop is amazing (but only available for a short time)

I recently had their Honeyman IV (now an IPA) and found it to be better than Superpower.

Unfortunately I got to falling rock too late to try Honeyman. I really wanted to try it though..

I have a distinct feeling we're going to see some more offerings from Dry Dock showing up on this list in the relatively near future.

Nothing yet, but I have a strong hunch that's going to be a priority later in the year. They've got some new blood coming in. I haven't seen any announcements, but I'm sure it will hit the wires pretty soon.

Unfortunately I find myself very disappointing with the IPA scene in Colorado as a whole. As a state that likes to beat their chest as a great brewery state we've failed to create a world class IPA a la Zombie Dust and PseudoSue. This strikes a large chord with me but that's a whole different story. With all of that being said the one IPA I have greatly enjoyed lately is the Superpower IPA by Comrade. A very good beer.

Generally I agree. Colorado should be more progressive with their IPA's. I usually end up purchasing a lot of beer brewed in California (Lagunitas Sucks, Green Flash West Coast IPA, Racer 5 are my favorites) I do however love Avery Maharaja and Odell Myrcenary more than all those

@Mike1512 and @WingsAndBeer72 , you both basically are saying "Colorado doesn't have any GREAT IPAs except for these great IPAs I'm about to list..."

    lol fellas.

Agreed, those cali IPA's are solid. I forgot about Avery Maharaja, my apologies, very solid indeed but I still am not a huge fan of Myrcenary, I'd almost rather have their regular IPA than that.

I basically meant exactly what I wrote. Colorado as a whole doesn't do well when it comes to IPA's however if I were to pick one (for the sake of this thread) I would pick Superpower by Comrade.

To be fair, they have a point. Colorado brews a lot of great beer but not a lot of great IPAs. Also the best one isn't even bottled so that basically leaves Odell's IPAs and a few others. I'm not the biggest fan of bitter IPAs like Titan and Modus. Backcountry's DIPA is super limited. That doesn't leave much else as far as 6 packs go. While on the other hand the East Coast is killing it with fresh, new, hoppy beers on the regular.

I was in Station 26 last night and tried their DIPA which was just released a week or 2 ago. I thought it was really fantastic and I bet many of you would agree with me. I would drink that beer any and every day of the week.
