Are there any highly desired/sought after beers that you had the opportunity to buy, but--for whatever reason--did not, only to come to regret the decision later?

One of mine was Terrapin's Depth Charge. It came out around when I was beginning to lurk on these forums and really get into craft beer. I saw plenty in stores, but ignored it until one day I finally tried it on tap at a bar. Of course at that point it was nowhere to be found in bottles.

The other was a similar situation except with Founders Nemesis 09. I had read on the forums to pick it up if I saw it. I happened across a large amount of it at my local store and gasped at the $19 price tag (this was long before I had ever even considered dishing out $20-30 for a single bottle of beer). I finally sucked it up and bought 1 four-pack, and now I really, really wish I had bought a few more, or at least saved a bottle. My appreciation for barrel aged beers was severely lacking at the time.

Schaerbeekse Kriek from 3F ($37 for a 375mL). I stared and stared and stared at it on the shelf at Sams Quik Shop in Durham, NC for 6 months. Then when I finially ditched my conscience and went to buy it, it was gone forever. FUCK.

As a matter of fact, this happened yesterday. The beer was BA Old Ruffian. I just couldn't pull the trigger for $25. Not sure if ill regret it or not though.

Black Tuesday on the shelf in NC

Not buying a case of Event Horizon when I had the chance.

This one isn't rare or anything, but a local store had Brooklyn Local 1 and 2 for $5/piece a while back. Should have bought them out of both.

Not buying any Kuhnhenn's BBBW last December when it was sitting there while I was in the brewery for a drink was probably my dumbest move yet.

Speaking of Nemesis '09, thankfully i have one bottle left! But when do you decide to drink something like that? Anyway, I also just did the same with BA ruffian, it would be nice to have but I just cant drop that much on. The only other thing I can think of is that one year, towards the end of the season, I had hesitated and then finally picked up a bottle of Pumking. It tasted just like carrot cake and I love carrot cake, so i returned the next day but they were all gone, had to wait til the next year. Now i could care less i cant even finish a bottle of that shit. I also wanted to pick up a bottle of DuClaw Colossus just because, but never could drop the money on it even though it may still be on the shelf.

If it makes you feel any better, that's an insanely high price. There are 750s on the shelves in Chicago for $30, and even that's pretty high.

Not buying all the Cantillon's that used to be all over the place 10 years ago and sitting on them.

That's definitely a great deal since both of them are top notch in my book. I shell out $10 for them on occasion.

I've passed on many because I only buy a small percentage of my purchases in large format. I'm not conflicted because I set a beer budget and stick to it. I bet they were great and I would have enjoyed them, but I know my old standards are really good too and fit into my budget. And I do ante up for some of them from time to time.

Didn't buy an Abyss once and at the same store passed on a King Henry. In my defense it was before the insane hype so I had no idea.

When I started buying beers to cellar again a year or so ago I wasn't really sure on what to get, local store had upwards of 8+ bottles of both Parabola, and FW 14. Even after buying 2 of each I feel like it was a huge miss to get a couple more to hold onto....

They also had multiple Stone Double Bastard 2008.. I did buy/drink most of that

NB Le Terroir. Was on a lunch break from work and saw it was on tap. I didn't want to return feeling "tired" and past it up.

I finally had one last weekend and I can tell you I'll have an insane tab at the December release.. Buying a case or two of that plus the other releases.

I passed on King Henry, I already had a 4 pack of BCBS, Evolution Fall Migration, and a few six packs for a beer exchange in my basket when it was offered...I just couldn't pull the trigger on spending more money...

I don't want to rub it in but I used to balk at the price of BCBS when a store I frequent in MA had 4 packs from the 2009 release long after it came out. I'm glad I eventually pulled the trigger because soon after that they sold out of it and as far as I know that store never saw any of the 2010 or 2011 bottles. So in a way, I guess thats one of my biggest non-regrets.

Along the same lines though, I was in London in November 2010 and visited a specialty beer store in one of the markets their. Saw both BCB Coffee and Vanilla stouts on the shelf but passed on them thinking I would get them back home sometime. Their price wasn't even that unreasonable considering where I was but still I was on a budget and was more distracted by the relatively cheap price of Cantillon. If only I knew then what I know now.

Firestone 10 was the big one, Hi-Time had cases of the stuff in 2006, but I balked at the then outrageous $9 bomber price. I also regret not buying more 2009 Black Tuesday and also not enjoying more Cantillon and Younger in the easy days.
