Definitely not malt forward. Is it sweeter than an IPA? Yes, of course, it's a DIPA, but definitely not malt forward.

Does anyone know when the Backcountry DIPA comes out? Does it make it down to Denver to places like Mondo and Mr. B's or is it something I need to search out in the mountains?

I think it last came out around January at Mr B's.

It last came out in mid February, and it was in stores two days after the bottling date. Mr Bs sold out right away, I found some a few days later at Mayfair. I never saw any at Argonaut this go-round, but they have had it in the past.

I remember sending a picture to my friend because it was so fresh so I dug that up, bottled 2/17, in stores 2/19

You don't think Backcountry is a malty IPA?! Boy I do.

I've purchased it from Grapevine, Mondo Vino and Mile High... I last saw it in February.

Has anyone tried Incline Imperial IPA by Pikes Peak? It's on tap at falling rock. Gonna head over after work.

Well I hope @biking4beer is happy to know that because of this thread I am now in search of the highly praised beer that he brews!

No, not dumb at all. It's cool. Taste is subjective. The malt bill is actually pretty simple and it finishes pretty dry (relative depending on who you ask). It's not as simple as a straight up two-row malt bill (we do have a newish IPA that leans that way. No, not in bottles unfortunately). I have two comments in regard to "malt-forward." It's partly a matter of language. Not super dry in my book doesn't make it malt forward. Sorta like not super sour doesn't make a beer "not that sour." It doesn't have to be one extreme or another. Also, the beer changes quite a bit in the bottle. More so than the other Backcountry beers. We have a nice bottling machine, but in the big scheme of things, it's not that sophisticated of a bottling machine. If you can find it on draft sometime, try it and check out the difference. Maybe somedrinkers here can speak to that difference.

I'll also say that there are some folks that have blind tasted it against other beer, and I don't think the comments were that it was malt forward. I could be remembering that incorrectly.

Release dates? There aren't specific ones because we aren't a straight-up production facility. We tried to have it on tap and in limited bottles most of the winter. There is, however, a distinct possibility that it will be around a little bit this summer, but not for at least another month or so.

Thank you for making me feel slightly better, haha... egg on my face. I'll just go ahead and shut up and let you tell us about your beer. ... a beer that, while I apparently have NO idea what it contains, I do love - thanks for that!

You're allowed to have your own opinion for sure. I'm sure there are others that agree with you too.

And yes, it is mostly Citra hops. I personally wouldn't use that hop in a SMaSH beer (I don't really like those anyway). I don't think it's a good bittering hop and it's wasted using it that way.

Kinda off-topic but some fresh Lagunitas Sucks sixers hit town (131, bottled May 11th), and Argonaut has them for $8.99. Life ain't all that bad.

That beer just hasn't been the same the last year or so. It's a shame, I don't know what happened

I completely agree, but I think it's still good and the price point is amazing.
