    Greetings BAs!

I just moved from Chicago to Athens, OH and would like to host a Beer Geek's "Wine" tasting. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in the area so this could end up being a tasting for 1. I've had some great beer karma as of late and would like to give back as well as meet some local BAs.

    Currently I have on hand:
    Boulevard Harvest Dance
    Short's Anniversary Ale
    FFF Boogoop
    Troegs Flying Mouflan
    Two Brothers Bare Tree 2009
    Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot

I'm also trying to find/trade for as many of the following barley/wheatwines as possible:
    King Henry
    Nemesis
    CW BBBW
    Alpine Great
    MoAS
    Abacus/Sucaba
    Insanity
    White Oak

    What I need from you:
    1) Your attendance
    2) Your suggestions on other brews I should try to find/trade for to round out the tasting list
    3) Your suggestions on food pairings

    Thank you kindly!
    Josh

PS. The tasting doesn't have to be in Athens...I'm willing to travel if there is interest from lots of people in Columbus or even Cincinnati. Would just need to find a place to have it.

My schedule is pretty wide open. Hopefully on the next month. That will give me time to do some trades and get back from The Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison. What are your time/date constraints?

I'd think you could find Insanity and White Oak on the shelf around. Both distributed in Ohio and on the shelves up here in Toledo.

Seeing that he recently relocated, it's not likely that he'd have any bottles of it. Jackie O's only sells bottles at their releases- 3/4 days each year. (Cans coming soon though.)

Could just tell people that wanna come to bring a bottle, I don't think it would be too much to ask, plus takes a lot of strain off you since you already wanna host, plus would cut down on shipping costs for you.. Sounds like its be fun but my attendance would depend on what date ya get nailed down

I know you are younger and newer to this site, but I know at least 3 times now that you've been told by other local BA's that Dark Ap hasn't been available for some time now. So let this be a last time: The only bottles of Dark Ap that are available currently are ones that are in people's cellars, and they are only available if the owners are willing to trade them. DA may be made available again by Brad, but no certain date on that. Okay?

    To OP:

I'd be down for a tasting in Athens, gives me a reason to stop in at Jackie O's outside of a bottle release. That Shorts Anni Ale is quite nice, Mike opened one a few weeks ago when I went to his house, and it was very surprisingly good. I could bring something out of the fridge to share, or stop down and get a growler from the Weasel.

Like vrbulldog surmised, I don't have any Dark App bottles yet...but they had it on tap yesterday (which was amazing) and I was told they would have it at back on Tuesday as well. I'd be happy to pick up growlers for people or share one at the tasting even though it doesn't fit the theme of the barleywine/wheatwine style, I feel everyone should have a shot at trying it.

I guess if people are more interested in a different tasting theme I'm pretty open to that too. I do have quite a few stouts in the cellar, or we could do a hodge podge of styles. Thoughts? If people want to bring a contribution that would be great too but it certainly isn't required for attendance. If people do want to bring something, just let me know so I know not to buy it/trade for it.

At the moment I'd like to throw the dates 9/8 or 9/22 out there to see what interest is like. Also, if Cbusssted wants to host it...then I throw it back to him to give a few options.

a74gent - thanks for the info on those beers, I'll do some searching.

CBusssted...if you want me to pick you up your own growler of Dark App, message me and we can arrange a trade. I'll probably take a drive up there soon/next week so my fiancee can try Jeni's ice cream.

You know, I did forget about him allowing it to go out in growlers. But even still, it's not bottles :stuck_out_tongue:

I've still yet to go down to the Weasel to try the weizenbock. I need to do that this week :|

I may be able to attend this. I've been wanting an excuse to head to Athens, anyway!

I might be down for this. Got, I don't know, 50 different barleywines/wheatwines and probably a dozen or so Old Ales as well.

Also, the next Jackie O's release is 8/18 so a lot of us will be down to Athens that weekend. Off site tastings will be likely.

Glad you told me, else I wouldn't have known about it. The blog on the new website doesn't work for me on any browser, and I haven't seen Brad post anything.

Brad posted something about it last week and said they would be updating the website soon.

Unfortunately I won't be free for most of the day on the 18th but if people are in town the night before or in the evening on the 19th I'd be happy to have people over for drinks...but I'd rather have it be more of an informal thing since I can't guarantee what time I'll be free that weekend.

Does anyone know how the Jackie O's releases typically work? I'll be free in the morning on the 18th and would love to go to the release if it is early. Do the bottles sell out that day or will they possibly be available on the 19th as well?

Tickets on brewery side night before, if he does it like the last one. Fluff opens at 7 for bottle share/breakfast, brewpub at 9, bottle sale at 11, drink until whenever you feel like leaving.

I'll be there the night before, along with some goodies. Can't say for certain what I'll be bringing, but I've got a couple bombers that I've been saving for the next release.
