When you rate, how often do you review? As of right now I'm at exactly 50%, but I've fallen off recently with most of my reviews coming from when I first joined. How bouts you?

Its at almost exactly 80% and moving upwards. When I started it was all reviews with ratings. After rating only became an option i did a lot of ratings, but I have since found that reviewing helps me remember better what beers I've had and why I enjoyed or didn't enjoy it. So now I'm back to mostly reviews with ratings. I've also found that taking the time to do a review actually helps me enjoy beers more when I'm having one just for fun or enjoyment or during an evening with friends.

I've seen some folks say they don't review because it takes away from their enjoyment but for me its quite different, overall I'm enjoying beers more because of taking the time to do reviews.

Very low I use the rating system mainly to keep track of what I like than to write a formal review.

100% for me. If I am rating, I am usually taking notes for reviews as well.

5 years ago, full reviews were a lot more emphasized and appreciated. I guess I never lost that way of thinking. That was back when a review had to be more than a five word sentence.

My mind does not work in pure numbers, so it's difficult for me to give a beer a rating without going through the whole review process -- rating taste, smell, looks, etc. separately is much, much easier for me than taking the whole experience of a beer and boiling it down to just one number without any process of figuring things out in between, and having to write down my thoughts in the process makes it a whole lot easier to come up with what numbers to use for those.

So... 100% of my ratings are also reviews, and all of those are multi-paragraph (none of this "Outlier detected! Please justify your rating with a review" nonsense even when/if I do have an outlier-level ratings variance. XD)

How do you know of the "outlier detected" feature if you always review, hmmm? winky face.

I also like to read through other people's reviews of beers I've had (or sometimes, beers I've wanted to try at some point but haven't been able to find) and see if other people's taste buds picked up the same stuff as mine, and a lot of people who apparently don't want to write anything just leave that message as their "review" rather than writing anything else in its place. I'm not sure if I remembered it word for word, but I've seen enough "reviews" with just those words by now that it should probably be close. XD

100% If I don't add some contextual comments, I don't see the point.

"Tastes like a 4.2" means absolutely nothing to me.

Used to review way more, back when you needed to write something. Now, its easier to tick the review, especially with the mobile app.

I entered 723 beers with reviews over 10+ years. Most of them were in the first 5 years, then I slacked off because it was taking so much time. Since I got back to BA and saw that you could just rate, I've added about 80 more, with a few requiring me to review. I still have over 1000 on my spreadsheet left to rate, unfortunately some breweries have been closed for years. Maybe 800 can be entered. Oh well. Gonna have to work for the 2500 mark but I am sure with enough effort I can drink that much.

Whatever makes you happy. I use it as a back up drive to my very imperfect memory. I will rate when out & drinking some times though...

I balance the two, but decided I wanted to be at least 2/3 reviews (working towards it). Easier as I add reviews to previous rated-only beers.

If I am rating a beer no one has reviewed, I will take the time to review it (especially if I add it, I HATE a beer added with not even an effing rating!)

If I review, I try to offer something, at least to myself, about the qualities of the beer. If it's useful to others, I'm even happier. I do read your guys reviews when deciding on beers, too.
