The Citra Hop Savant is amazing, thanks to everyone in here for the recommendation. As a person who is new to the Crooked Stave scene they may have just gained a new loyal customer!

I was just enjoying an Alpine Duet at Freshcraft and my mouth started watering for Hop Fest. I can't wait.

I need to start going to that dang place when I'm in Denver, their tap list is pretty fantastic!

Yeah, pints are only $4.50 during happy hour (until 7). They had so much I wanted to try but I could only have one. They had S26 double ipa.

I saw that, I'm going to the brewery on Tuesday night, hopefully S26 is still serving it then!

Just had S26 double IPA at Freshcraft, world class indeed! Now at "The Source" doubling up on the amazing Citra Hop Savant from Crooked Stave, gonna be hard to stop drinking this one!

Make sure to give the Amarillo one a try as well and if you want to dip your toes into something a bit more sour give the Proginetor a try!

I say this with nothing but love and respect for what the're doing over there but I think you just rang him up with ( including the beer he ordered before your suggestion) around a $28 (pre-tip, and we must take care of Jeff et al) tab, for around 30 ounces of beer. I mean, it is the "Colorado IPA" thread and that's the equivalent of a shitload of Myrcenary....

I say this as somebody whose trip over there last week for a taste of that Citra Savant somehow, I don't remember exactly how, ended up as a $120 debit, at least according to those lying-ass computers at Bank of the West.

@tylerstravis @southdenverhoo full disclosure I didn't see your comments till we left, I'll keep the recs in mind for next time, we sampled the blueberry sour and downed a few citras, bought a shirt and the coolest coasters ever! We definitely ran up a decent tab but it was worth it, the place was awesome! I have no doubt I'll be there sooner than later and I'll try others!

Or, you know, you could get two samples for $3 each.

If I had that sort of self discipline I wouldn't rack up a $100 plus tab every time I walk in there!

Earlier in this thread, we were talking about Citra hops being the popular flavor in IPAs/APAs. I think you guys were right, that's what does it for me. Just had Upslope's APA at Hops and Pie that uses Citra and it's good. I mean really good. And I don't even like Upslope. Their brown is the only beer I drink from them, but this pale ale was delicious and I will be seeking it out soon.

Ratio has an all citra-hopped saison called Dear You that will scratch that citra itch for a lot of people. Without overreaching, it's one of the few beers that seems to be trying to emulate the Hill Farmstead flavor profile. Not saying it's something that it isn't, but it's very unique to have something that tastes like that out here.

As nice as all-Citra beers can be, it seems even better used in conjunction with Simcoe, sometimes...

For what it is worth I wanted to share this with the thread. Today I sat down at Falling Rock and drank a side by side of Pliny the Elder and Comrade's Superpower IPA. I feel what I'm about to say is blasphemy and I fully expect a few negative comments coming my way but I couldn't help but notice that, in my mind, with my taste, Superpower was the better IPA and I would even go so far as to say it wasn't that close of a call.

I hope you guys don't stone me on this thing as I am relatively new and love the discussions but I felt I had to share my opinion on this matter.

I've actually heard this from quite a few people. No stones here

I think Pliny is a classic and there are now a great number of beers that surpass it... I've heard superpower is one of them, though I personally didn't find this to be the case.

    Cheers!

They are both fantastic beers. You can't go wrong with either one. That is one of the reasons I don't go out of my way to find Pliny in the store, I can just go to Falling Rock and have a superpower. Just wait until October when Comrade puts out their freshop - Superdamp.

Sounds like you should try some more of Upslope's recent stuff. They're doing some pretty great things with fruited and sour beers; tap room only of course. There have been some fantastically hopped offerings come through as of late as well.

As for the beers they distribute, I agree the Brown is the only one I regularly purchase.

Falling rock had comrade hop chops available at the younger release and I preferred hop chops.

Hop Chops just seemed juicier to me (imagine that!). Younger, at least lately to me, has more of an evaporating feel to it. Flavor seems reduced.
