I completely agree with the evolving preeminence of American brewing. It IS a great time...I can't keep up. I remember when I thought Moosehead was a "premium" import and Newcastle Brown Ale was such a go-to my brother and I named one of our dogs after that said (mediocre at best) beer.

Yeah back in the day Newcastle was a great beer, wasn't it? Last one I had I was shocked at how thin and tasteless it is now. Or is it me? I don't think so.

I went through same phases with the Canadians too.

From there to here? Sometimes I think how things are now for us fine beer lovers is even better than the wildest, most optimistic vision I had back then.

Couldn't agree more. Can you imagine what would've happened had we randalled a Moosehead with some Centennial hops, or threw some brandy aged oak chips into that Newcastle?

Can't disagree with any of this. I love the full, rich taste of a good beer. I can't really drink any mass market
beers any more because they're so thin and flavorless.

Also everyone on this site has been really cool.

It is amazing how fast your taste can change. I used to think Budweiser was rich and full. Now I drink a single ipa or porter and think of that as a simpler lighter beer.
Even the beer community off this site is great. Most beer bar customers are just people who are passionate about beer just like here.

Because in heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here...so the song says. I think the answer is quite simple. We are all Beer Advocate followers because we love unique flavorful beer.

For sure man. It's a really different experience having something good as opposed
to a Bud or Miller Lite. Craft beer is worth it IMO.

As with most things (other than Volvos) they write songs about this...

"I like beer, it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer, it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (Makes him feel mellow)
Whiskey's too rough, Champagne costs too much, vodka puts my mouth in gear"

    Thank you Tom T. Hall!

to the question, cuz it's friggin delicious, that's why. Once you find what you like, there's unlimited possibilities and varieties!

oh, and the buzz is pretty alluring too

If you like bourbon and are at all curious about scotch, I'd suggest Highland scotch distilleries to start. Highland scotch is sweet and full of vanilla. Balvenie comes to mind.

Lowland scotches are peaty, thick and smoky...like the Rauchbiers of scotch. You might like them right out of the gate but chances are better that you'll need to warm up to them. They're not everyone's cup o tea. Lagavulin is often the most highly regarded "go to" but I prefer Laphroig.

I love the history of beer as well. The oldest known alcoholic beverage. we're drinking 6000 + years of history.

I love beer. All the beer. I'm the one idiot on this site that will drink a Natty Light to review it and enjoy the experience. I know, I know. What a freak. I love Beer Advocate to explore opinions, thoughts, and photos. I love the culture, I love the buzz.

Some guy, apparently, has come across or decoded the first known recipe for beer. hes made a batch and its supposed to taste pretty good. about 4000 years old or older. I've been searching online but cant find it. like a strong honey mead. 11%
