So I'm heading to Raleigh to see my buddy for his birthday but it's a ridiculously short and busy trip so I've only got time to hit one bottle shop before heading to his place. With that in mind, I was wondering which one might have the best selection, most options, or is more likely to have some harder to find beers sitting on the shelf. I'm in the VA beach area but I don't get out of town very often.

    Cheers.

Depends where in Raleigh you're heading, but I would recommend Bottle Revolution or Tasty Beverage.

Ridgewood - most draft beers & best prices
Bottle Rev - best overall selection & good drafts
Tasty - stuff that might not still be on shelves at other places

I prefer Ridgewood. Ridgewood and Bottle Revolution (Lake Boone Trail location) are within 5 minutes of each other.

Tasty also has a good selection, but at Bottle Rev you can do singles of anything you want so I give the "selection" edge to it. All 3 of the places I mentioned have updated draft lists on their respective sites btw, but only Ridgewood and Tasty fill growlers.

State of Beer is the other one that is worth a stop in, and they have food and crowlers which makes them a little different.

    Tasty and Ridgewood.

Had some weird interactions with employees at Bottle Rev a couple of years ago. Haven't been back in a while.

Disagree... Bottle Rev has THE BEST employees. Maybe you should try again. Tasty is also great.

I would also say that Bottle Rev has particularly friendly and nice staff, noticeably so in my experience. Maybe you caught someone on a bad day.

Must have a been a few bad days. They do have a great selection, but it's a bit cramped, even more than Tasty.

For what the OP is looking for, I'd recommend Tasty.

The inside is pretty small, but the patio is enormous.

Thanks everyone. I didn't get to make it since we were shorter on time than I thought but when I go back down in late July I'll probably have time to hit up multiple stores.

Does everything in this thread still hold true? Any other spots to stop at before leaving Friday morning?

Ratings for beer stores are more reliable than beer ratings, but getting fresh first hand info is never bad.

Still accurate. I'd even add State of Beer.

bottle rev is great if you like confused semi-hipsters, like paying a dollar or two more per beer and it's not too cold or hot out where you can go out on the patio. Tasty is great if you wear skinny jeans rolled up to your knees, you consider soccer a physical sport and the only reason you ride a bike is because you like how the seat feels between your ass cheeks.

I prefer Tasty. Great selection and fair prices. Bottle Rev doesn't really have any where to sit down inside.

The taplist at Ridgewood is consistently the best in town, but is particularly good right now. KBS, Bomb, Victory at Sea, and Bond Bros Coconut & Cinnamon Variant for stouts, Pernicious, Enjoy By, Breaking Bud, and Bond Bros Local for IPA's, Westbrook Gose and Bond Bros Apricot Sorcery for sours.

Combine all that with a few lighter beers like Oberon, Lager of the Lakes, and a Radler and you've got yourself a seriously complete draft list that has something for everyone. They even have a saison from Haw River too. None of these are beers that other places in town don't get obviously, but nowhere else would ever have them on all at the same time. Plus they do 4 oz pours of everything and they don't do tips (anything you throw down extra when paying cash goes to the charity of the month).
