I don't identify as "hardcore" so I had to go with a 1.

Well, I once spent 4 hours reading about sparklers on-line. Turns out, there's quite the division on whether or not to use sparklers.

Geez! Of all the things originally mentioned, the only 2 that DON'T apply to me are the homebrewing and the regular tasting group (unless you count my roommate!)...

I guess that makes me pretty damn hardcore!!! :grinning:

I said 8. Spend more money than my wife would like at not as much as I would like on beer. She has become more tolerant about my hobby and actually has started to ask me if there are any breweries, bottle shops, and/or bars I want to stop at when we go on vacation. Hell, she even surprises me and looks into places on her own without me prompting her or dropping hints before we go anymore!!

I said 7, my wife would probably say 9 or 10, a lot of my friends don't understand, and most of the higher up BA;s would probably say somewhere between 4-7

I'm a solid 8. I shop for beer at least once a week, hit up local breweries every so often, vacation in Rehoboth and Maine, partly for the beer, but I don't pay crazy amounts for larger formats (usually), don't stand in lines and I don't chase whales.

    9. The only reason I didn't vote '10' is because I don't trade hundreds of dollars worth of beer for whalez

I would think I am about a 7. I am more educated about beer than most of my friend group. I do travel for beer and hit up several breweries. However, I do not trade--yet, brew, attend festivals, and I really do not chase whales either.

What is hardcore though? Leaving work to get Prop on tap? Driving 2 hrs to get to a bottle release? Is it hardcore if you indulge in the trading scene?

I rated myself at a 5. I've made several Vermont trips....only drink fresh IPA'S...shop for beer weekly. I have given myself only a five because on this site I believe there are many people who spend thousands of dollars a month on beer and beer related traveling.

Solid 6 IMO. I like to talk about, drink and now brew beer. I have beer-vacationed and spread the word to people I know about other regional breweries. I have gifted and done IP trades. I have hopefully turned on some people to non mainstream beer by always offering samples of that strange 'dark beers' I like. I have begrudgingly stood up in front of strangers and talked about beer that I poured them at small, private beerfests locally.

I would have much more advocating to do to reach 7 yet alone 10.

I rated myself a 5. Middle of the road. I don't travel to buy beer, I buy 90% from one store. Only been to 1 beer festival, not a fan of standing in line for a 4 oz sample. I do some bottle sharing with co-workers, about 6-8 times a year. I do have at least one beer most every day.

I put 3 because I don't think I'm anywhere close to hardcore. I go to beer tastings a few times a year. There are a number of bottle shops I stop at looking for certain beers but I don't go to releases or travel specifically for beer. My wife thinks I'm a 10+ but she doesn't get it!

I'm a 6, but maybe lower than that. I love talking about beer styles, beer/food pairings, writing about beer for fun, finding new beers available at the supermarkets, I have proper glassware at home, I have a miniscule beer cellar (AKA: my dark cupboard), keeping up-to-date with news about breweries and beer festivals, and I look forward to trying new beers in different countries when I travel.

What makes me possibly lower than a 6 is that I don't attend beer festivals (in fact I've never been to one!), I've never brewed beer at home (although I'm about to get a starter kit), I don't trade, I don't travel to other states just to try breweries, I don't spend a ton of money on beer (in fact on average probably about $100 a month), I've never been to a beer tasting and I've never hosted one, and I've only purchased 2 growlers of beer my whole life! Perhaps after putting this down on paper, I am a 2! Oh well, I love good beer regardless! To some people, I'd be more than 10, but in reality, I'm a measly 2
