I've never had any Hill Farmstead beers, but honestly, with a question like this I don't think I need to have tried it. In my experience dealing with beeradvocate's and people in general I think HF would not but nearly as well regarded if it were in San Diego.

I had a blabaer offered for my bottle of Ann. The only reason I didn't take it is that I am not looking for that style at the moment.

I have now had one beer from HF on tap, Edward, and I thought it was a very solid beer, but I think I was slightly disappointed in it solely because of all the hype that has surrounded the brewery and their beers. This is no fault of the brewery, but my own fault for hyping my expectations. I would love to try any of their other beers, but at the price I paid for Edward ($7/9oz) I am not sure I would get Edward again. I am happy to have been able to try it though and hope to try more of their beers in the future.

In other words, to summarize this post - "Hill Farmstead is good, but let's face it - no brewery could be near as good as breweries from my part of the country. Amirite?"

He should be fine waiting a few weeks. They recently brewed a 2nd batch of SS#4 (and yes, 750s only right now).

If Portland beer geeks knew the difference between unintended infections and unique flavor profiles, would they still spend up to $75 on a bottle of HotD that the guy couldn't sell in the last 15 years? ....see how it works both ways? :-)

A local beer store around here opened up last year and went quickly from being cash-only the first few months to accepting Visa and MC. I'm sure I was just one of many customers that didn't spend as much as they would of with a card (even with an ATM on site because no one likes paying the fees). HF is a bit different though... it's not like you just pop on over for a quick beer run. It's a planned destination beer run for most people and they make it pretty obvious on their website that they are cash-only. Knowing that, when I head over there this weekend, I'll take my budget into account and hit the ATM before I even leave town. Sure, from a customer service standpoint it would be convenient but they don't seem to have any problem selling out as cash-only.

Im not going but from what i saw as a tap list i'd want to buy several extra "tasting" tickets at $5 a piece lets say thats $25. A few growlers to drink at $15. Tulip glass is like $7. I believe they have a bottle being released (altho I dont know how many per person) and you should get some everett or whatever else they have in bottles thats not limited. Now your up to maybe $150 and obviously if you are buying to trade it could be much more.

On Sunday, the day after 3 sessions of Burlington Brewers Fest, Hill's was set-up to pour 3 beers from a cold-plate for the VT Cheesemakers Festival and sell some Vera Mae bottles. Shaun and Dan were pouring. There were only 3 breweries there (is a very wine-dominated event) and I was awfully grateful to have them there with some saisons - the other 2 were Long Trail and Otter Creek. (BTW, that event also sold out over a month ago, with 1,750 attendees.) Also, there were many of their kegs were being tapped around the Burlington/Waterbury area for people who got shut out of the Brewfest. And, retail sales at the brewery were going on as usual for all the visiting beer geeks making the pilgrimage to get what they wanted to take home. So, it was a huge volume weekend for them overall, and I was not surprised they had to parcel out what they had for the set-up at Brewfest. I prefer not to second-guess Shaun's biz-decisions on how he will try and distribute his beer around for the biggest beer weekend in the state of VT. So, why would you?

Get your logic out of here. Can't you see that we are trying to figure out WHY people like good beer and talk about it on a discussion board that is all about beer?

    Rabble rabble, I say!

(on a less sarcastic note, it is AMAZING the amount of HF that is on tap at the bars currently. )

I live in Worcester, MA and HF is roughly a 4 hour drive. I have zero problem driving there once a month to get my fix for both drinking and "cooking" and do some minor trading. While I don't knowingly ask for the moon so to speak, I can understand why some do. Just about everything they produce is outstanding. Its tough really, trading HF that is. Lets say you get a growler of Society and Solitude 4 (my personal favourite growler fill they've ever offered). Its a "readily" accessable beer for those who live in the area, but just because it costs $13 for a fill (growler + fill) does that mean it should only get a readily accessable $13 beer from the other traders area? Most of the time that HF beer is at the top of its class for that style, and thats a fact that really should be factored in. Do I think a single bottle should get a JJ Blauw, probably not. Then again, I kind of find it hard to believe that if most of us had one of those bottles and someone offered something of epic proportions we would turn it down and ask for a DFH 750mL instead.

And for the record, the hype really only works for the bottle releases. Hell, I couldnt get a Peche n Brett for any growler fills.

I'll be there..with probably $300 or so. T's are $20, sweats uhh..$35? unsure. food, no one knows yet. tasting tickets are $5 a pop (your ticket comes with 5). Also, as I'm sure you read when you bought the ticket, they wont serve you beer unless you have a HF glass, which you'll have to buy there or bring with you (glass is $7 for a tulip and $5 for the typical wine tasting glass)

Edward is their least impressive pale IMO, which is only the case because the others are incredible. So good luck trying more.
