    I'm a one-trick-pony, but went with 9.5 for the same reason I've never rated a beer 5.

I spend my free time in breweries buying beer and reading about beer. I'd say I'm a 10

    10. I homebrew, read about beer, drink good beer all the time. I had some coors light the other day but that's just because that's all there was at a wedding but it was all free at least.

Consider myself a 5. Strictly softcore here .
I've done virtually none of the things the OP listed, other than a little homebrewing with a friend (design the labels too).
But I have spent over $100 on beer in a day, have an ample glass collection (on display), and — most importantly — have been a BA member for over 6 years. I have the website perpetually up in a browser tab at work to monitor a few forums.
Oh, and I have the BA app on my phone (untappd and BeerMenus too).

7 because I rarely trade and only attend a few local brewfests per year.

Well, for example, I will not pay double for Stone to put their smoked porter on vanilla beans. I will not pay for things that are obscenely priced. For example, for Ballast Point to introduce a new pale ale and expect it to fetch for 16.99 a sixer....I say get away from me. I'm a six pack / four pack kind of guy, but will buy pricey bombers for styles that don't have multi-pack offerings, such as wild ales. I visit the beer store 3 times per week and purchase 3-4 six packs of different beer in a given week. I would never host a tasting party, nor would I attend one. I'm a beer advocate, and while I'm prone to obsessions, it embarrasses to showcase or broadcast my obsessions. You could love Bud Light and I could just as well you. I love beer. Hello

I put a lowly 3, I'm still a relative newbie. Love craft beer and I like discussing with it friends and family first and foremost. I do hit brew pubs and local breweries when I travel. However, I don't have the incredible rain-man-like ability to recall everything about beers that I have had. A lot of BA-ers are incredible, I'm learning a lot!

If you're not from the UK, you get a 10 for even knowing what sparklers are.

Went with 7. I was probably a 9 at one time, but these days some of the people in the trading forums legitimately frighten me.

I put 7, although my wife would also say 27! I have based travel on beer(three floyds and grand rapids) trade beer, brew beer, run a brew club, comment about beer, and oh lord do I drink the stuff. I have more beer literature then sports and **** put together (not counting the internet:grinning:)
prior to becoming active on BA, I would have said 10.5 for myself, but compared to most on here I feel I fit a 7 ranking well.

Oh man, it started when I noticed that a local place wasn't using one, when I thought they should be. I asked the bartender, and she didn't know what they were. So, then I A: looked into it on-line for her, where I fell into that 4-hour rabbit hole. Then B: I sent an email to the brewery, regional to me and who only produces cask, English style ales, what they preferred. They never got back to me. So, the debate rages on.

I would say I'm probably a 4 on the scale. I like beer, and I'm always on the look for new ones to try, but I wouldn't say I chase new releases or anything like that.
I do work in a brewery though, and I plan to start home brewing next winter, if all goes to plan.
I haven't traded yet, although I am open to it. I have a small collection of interesting bottle caps, have a dedicated beer cupboard which is always full to bursting, and I spend a lot of time outside work talking, reading and thinking about beer, as well as partaking in these forums from time to time.
So maybe I'm more hardcore than I give myself credit for? Certainly compared to most of my friends I'd be a 9 or a 10, but compared to most people here I'm probably only a 1 or 2. So I've split the difference and gone a bit lower I suppose.

i went with a solid 8. Love beer, love talking about beer with others that share the love, love making beer, fairly active in the (drinking) community but i don't need beer to be the center of my universe.
Attempted to get a few friends into it, but gave up due to the overwhelming pressure/history that a few BMC products have on my tiny city and that is often polarizing the craft vs the BMC crowds. Now i just offer but already know the response.
Rarely ever buy beer outside of bars any more ( been ages since i visited my local bottle shop ).
I have areas to improve on my hardcore scale but im definitely trying to let the bar drop a rung or two.

    I put a 6.

I don't trade at all, nor do I really care to. But I guess if something came up I couldn't pass up I guess I would.

I don't need to get every limited or special release, but I am pleased when I do run into one. I often pass them up due to the price tag. A lot of special releases don't even interest me.

I probably spend more than what I should and if I see something interesting I compulsively buy it. I blame this because I walk on my lunch break. I see something and decide to stop in. I will often walk into BevMo or a bottle shop, just because I am walking by it, and I rarely leave without a purchase. I do the same thing with food too though, I will bring a lunch, but I will walk by something that smells good, and walk back to the office with a meal.

I don't keep track of release schedules. I know that my favorite breweries have rotating beers, but rarely do I know when they are. These are mostly the beers I end up walking out of the bottle shop with.

I do homebrew, so I guess I get a few extra points for that.

I don't make trips to breweries as the central part of plans. I will make it part of my weekend plans, but I do not really travel for beer. If I go down to San Diego for the weekend, I do not go expressly to go to a brewery, but I will stop by one and enjoy myself if I have time. Generally if it is longer than an hour away, I will not make the trip just to get a beer. The one exception really is Beachwood. But that trip is accompanied by taking our dog to the dog beach so there is more than beer as a reason to go. I am trying to save enough to go to GABF, so that would be the exception to this rule.

I am going to have ticked 1000 beers by the end of the month, but I have slowed significantly recently. I find myself going back to ones I enjoyed, or things I wanted to try again to get a better read on, instead of just getting stuff I have not had. I used to be disappointed when I accidentally picked something up for a second time when ticked, now it is just oh well and give it another try, often picking up things I had missed before and especially now that my pallette is much better.

I am not forceful with other people and their drinking. I do stock things I think others will enjoy and try to cater to as many people as possible when entertaining. If I am going out with someone for business drinks or dinner I never try to impose a beer bar on them. I will suggest 4-5 different places, and maybe include a beer bar. Most of the time the other person will opt for one of the quirkier places I recommend.

I spend too much time on online forums, but I tend to do that with most forums. I have done the same with other themed forums as well. It probably has nothing to do with the beer, and more that I just enjoy typing my random thoughts to complete strangers and seeing where it goes.

My wife would probably disagree with me on this and say I am a lot higher than what I think I am. I think I am pretty restrained.
