I can't come up with 5, but gotta give a shoutout to Alewerks Small Batch #8 IIPA. This is nothing at all like their (relatively) well known Bitter Valentine. This is very much a citrus IIPA - it's like someone squeezed a grapefruit into the glass. Maybe not that extreme, but it's incredibly refreshing - almost feels sessionable though it's very much not. I'd be very happy if they put out Bitter Valentine in the winter and this thing in the summer. It's new. It's great. And it's apparently gone :slight_frown: (for now at least).

Depending on traffic conditions you could almost get from Newport to Block 15 in Corvallis in an hour, which would add Sticky Hands to your list. If you increase the radius to 1.5 hours you can get to
@deGardebrewing and drown your sorrows in Petit Azzacca.

Yes, from the intersection to hwy 20 is about ten min. Then I would need a clear road and no cops and I might just barely make it.

I believe the equivalent religious description would be purgatory. The funny thing is that folks from Corvallis, Eugene and Portland clog the roads out here like a 4th of July Parade when the temps get into the 90's inland.

It's getting easier to get great, small brewery hops in GA now with these guys:

Creature Comforts Tropicalia and Cosmik Debris
Burnt Hickory The Didjits and Old Wooden Head
    Orpheus Transmigration of Souls
    Jekyll Hop Dang Diggity

Within an hour of Portland: (BTW, sticking to the "under 10bbls" rule makes this considerably harder)

    Ex Novo Wonder Twins IIPA
    Ex Novo Dynamic Duo IIPA
    Baerlic Invincible IPA
    Heathen Transgression IPA

Shit...that's about all I can think of. Almost everyone in the area putting out solid hoppy beer has a system that's bigger than 10bbls.

Comrade brewing hop chops and super power. Rumor has it people at the PtY tapping preferred hop chops.
I also enjoy dry dock brewing dips and break water pale ale.

I should have a better handle than I do which breweries in town are under/over 10 bbls, but here are my non-behemoth 5:

    Sunriver Vicious Mosquito
    Silver Moon IPA 97
    Silver Moon Maui Wowie
    Below Grade Identity Crisis
    Bend Brewing Hop Head

    trillium stuff is insanely good.
tired hands stuff is pretty good...

but both of those are not even close to me. id say the best hoppy beer this way thats on a smaller scale would be square grouper and sure bet by pipeworks. their citra is also really good. otherwise, haymarkets mathias also wins

Well- you're getting nothing outta me that you don't already know- pick 5 from Rushing Duck, Other Half, Singlecut .

I think Kane and Carton are more than an hour, although I can occasionally get them 15 minutes from my house these days.

I can barely get to five, unfortunately--maybe I'll add to this thread again in a few weeks once my locale is Ann Arbor instead of Kansas City--but here are the elite few:

Cinder Block (is up to 15 bbl now, but I think it still qualifies...)
Rivet Rye - this is a hoppy wheat beer with rye and it's delicious
    Block IPA

Torn Label (also at about 15 bbl current production, but that may change before long based on the fact that their facility is more than large enough to grow quickly, and the fact that they seem to be pretty popular around here)
    Alpha Pale Ale
    Leap of Faith IPA
TongueLash - this one is cheating a little bit; it's a hoppy sour wheat
