We are a lot less cynical about brewery Kickstarter campaigns then some other states.

That's because we're used to having other people take our money for self-serving and questionable projects.

If one is relying on a kickstarter to generate $20k - $30k to launch a brewery, it makes me wonder how funded that operation really is. $30k is not that much in the context of brewery costs, and is probably less than the capital needed to operate for less than a month without including the costs of ingredients and other operating supplies (chemicals, maintenance, storage, shipping, etc). I really can't imagine that a kickstarter makes things go/no-go.

Has this then become more of a marketing exercise?

    From the Kickstarter

So I don't believe they are making any claims that the kickstarter is necessary to launch their brewery. Rather the kickstarter will make it possible to improve their brewery.

West bloomington is barren of new non-chain restaurants and craft beer bars. Its baffling how under served this area is

Yeah. That's how the Bauhaus one went. IT wasn't specifically needed to brew beer, but to round things out, make it a better experience, plus, it gets people invested and dedicated at an early point. Now, Bauhaus ended up having just great beer and their patio is awesome, but sure it didn't hurt to get an influx of money to start out.

It will be interesting to see if MNvest equity crowdfunding displaces Kickstarter-style rewards-based crowdfunding if and when MNvest is implemented.

IMO, not likely to displace Kickstarter-style due to at least 2 reasons:
    1. A MNvest campaign would be selling equity, not bling or other perks. This is a different equation from both the business and the investor side.
    2. MNvest has much higher paperwork requirements placed on the business.

Ditto Eagan. As I've said before, the south metro is pretty much a beer wasteland. A brewpub/beer bar/brewery anywhere in the area would probably do superbly no matter what kind of product they had.

A brewer at a recently opened brewery told me that some municipal governments simply don't want breweries and will put enough obstacles in their way to make sure that they don't set up shop in town. He specifically called out Eagan as one of those cities.

At least Angry Inch in Lakeville and Nutmeg in Burnsville are on the way. And there's always Granite City Fermentery in Eagan itself.

That would at least explain the gaping void, if not in a very pleasant manner. It's like someone put a containment field over the south metro with "no good beer!" scrawled on it.

We're regulars at Granite City simply because the beer is fine, the food is good, & it's close to our house. If there was a better alternative we'd be all over it.

A little (okay, a lot) further south... F-Town in Faribault started tweeting about a week ago, revealed a couple of can designs (slicker than I would have expected, and it's news to me that they'll have a canning line from the start) for Ipalicious IPA and Nutso Nut Brown Ale, and started brewing earlier today. I don't see an ETA on the opening.

Ate at India Palace yesterday and one of the workers expected the attached brewpub, Nutmeg I'm assuming by your mention, to be open in July. The building was up, but from the outside, sure looked like more than a month of work left to do.

I'd believe that. I'm not sure why my side of Bloomington doesn't have better restaurants / bars. Might be population density or zoning, but I feel like we could support something. I like Zeke's Place and all, but I'd like something more than that and Poor Richard's.

Honestly, stick a nice small brewery / taproom in the new development going up off Old Shakopee and France and I'd be really happy.

By the time some of these cities figure out what a boon a brewery is to a community, it may be too late for them.

I'm not a mathematician, but I think you mean a day, an hour and 20 minutes.
