I'm sorta agree with you OP and some of the other posters here. I think regular fresh Sculpin in cans is fantastic. I'm too lazy to check, but I bet Sculpin is one of my higher rated AIPAs. Grapefruit Sculpin not so much. Still a fantastic beer, but it tasted sorta fake to me. I mean that I think the grapefruit flavor doesn't taste like the sort of grapefruit flavor that a "citrusy" hop would give off. It feels artificial and it's gimmicky, plus its overpriced. That's fine though. There is something for everyone!

I'll second and third anyone saying they're with OP.

I'm very open minded, and love grapefruit juice. And as much as I'd like to be a fan of it, I just don't like grapefruit sculpin. I bought it once, but even that is telling enough.

I think the fact that i'm from the East Coast (New England) and i'm used to citrus bombs that GF Sculpin is very appealing…perhaps not so much if i'm used to more maltier IPA's. I don't understand how one can call it "artificial" perhaps it's Ballast Point's attempt at staying relative and their interpretation of an East Coast citrus IPA. Either way GF Sculpin rules!!!

I might be the only person who loves Habanero Sculpin. I live all version of Sculpin, but I like Habanero best.

I think Graprefruit Sculpin is very good if not just a little overrated. My go to IPA is definitely freshly squeezed. That being said, what I like about GS is that the grapefruit is not overpowering, but instead very subtle. But again, I find this a good IPA, not mind blowing

Regular Sculpin is a pretty good IPA. I have some in the fridge now. Grapefruit is not really my thing in beer, but a good friend had me try it and it was refreshing. I am in Northern California and BP has been arriving here in the shops for about a year now, and the prices are out of this world. A sixer of the GF was close to $18 for cans…cannot swing this. So for a good beer, I am going to have to skip this purchase.

I have asked myself what I was missing with BA Sculpin. Tonight I had Grapefruit Sculpin on tap and it was outstanding. Not as outstanding as the Lawson's SOS I had, though.

not sure what you're missing, I've only had the sucker once and barely remember it. but as long as you agree that regular sculpin itself is superior to 60 minute, (local pride put aside) u have my respect

I've had GF Sculpin at least 5 times. Never gotten any GF flavor besides that of the hops of any IPA. Will not give it a 6th try. Habenero Sculpin was to my liking though.

I am somewhat of an anomaly, I actually like all 3. I find the regular well balanced, I find the GF has a forward grapefruit taste with a bit of bitterness(i.e. pith) and the habanero, that just goes to show you not all beer cools you down when eating mexican food or chili. These are not go to beers, but I keep them around for when the mood strikes. Always on the lookout for a good grapefruit beer, still trying to convert my wife and she is a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc drinker (heavy grapefruit profile)

I get a very authentic taste from GF Sculpin, to me, it tastes like raw grapefruit. I guess everyone percieves aromas and tastes differently, but thats just me.

The price point makes this an "every so often" beer for me though

Grapefruit Sculpin has a great smell, but taste lacks the bite of regular Sculpin. Fresh regular Sculpin is a great beer.

Maybe you prefer an IPA to taste like an IPA. I'm not a big fan of adding flavors to beers but Grapefruit Sculpin is a very nice brew. I enjoy it.

I love it, but I can only drink one, quite spicy though without being ridiculously hot.

I like them both. Maybe the OP doesn't like grapefruit in general or the heavy rind type of bitterness that GFS has. There's plenty of great IPAs out there, just go with what floats your boat. GFS doesn't strike me as artificial. It is designed to be grapefruit forward and delivers same, imho, so balance is not to be expected. To my palate, both are fantastic but each has a different brewing design and delivers same.

As far as the Sculpin line goes, I'm satisified (besides the price). The grapefruit sculpin has a crisp and refreshing quality where the habanero has a little more going on and is enjoyed when sipped over a longer period of time. The regular sculpin has been a go to of mine for quite some time and I was very excited when the other flavors came out. Ballast Point does not disappoint in my opinion with any of their beer. *opens an Even Keel* Have a good morning everyone!

Regular Sculpin is very good but in my opinion is way over priced. I do like grapefruit and I truly enjoy Grapefruit Sculpin and can't wait to drink a few poolside.
Overpriced? maybe, but is all-right all-right all-right on a bluebird summer day

Meh. I like fresh Sculpin ok... expected an enhanced taste experience somewhat along the lines of Stone's Grapefruit Slam which I thought hit it out of the park. No luck.
