Happy Anniversary! It seems apt that I will be contributing for the first time to this thread later.

I used to really love watching the US OPEN. I am going to waych this year just to see if I spot you on camera. Make sure you wave now :sunglasses: I wonder if they will have any beer at the venue and if so what kind?

So where is that exotic location where you're pairing beer and donuts? Wherever it is the weather looks great.

Really liked that beer, and drank quite a bit of it when it was on at one of my locals about a year ago, but since then it kinda got lost in the shuffle (outside of new beers, I often tend to confine myself to NW beers when I get bottles/cans to take home). I'm thinking I'll pick up a few as a reward for surviving what's been a weird, somewhat unpleasant week.

Not too surprised. Your beer pic featured what looks like a Deschutes glass (travel with glassware, gotta respect that!), so I was thinking maybe Oregon coast, but it looked WAY too warm for that to be a possibility.

It's a good one, although their Another One IPA is actually better IMO.

Sorry @Ozzylizard . That's hard. I had to clear my mom's apartment in December, but i'm still dealing with other "stuff" and I have a final deadline of June 30th for her storage unit. And it's a biggun. I wish you the best, and thankfully there is beer.

Oh & @utopiajane congrats on the 2yr anniversary. Seems to me that you are just one hell of an Advocate :-)

    Hey what's going on!?

Big CHANGES afoot ladies and gents... it's been a busy weekend but productive. 10 cubic yards of leaf mulch... all spread out on my yard between Friday night and Saturday... hot... as !@$#!@%.... and I still need 7 more! Looks good though..

Drank a lot of cold beer after all that work, got spoiled on lots of Pseudosue, Zeelander and Dorothy Lager from Toppling Goliath.

It's far too hot to be out, I am in the basement man cave where it's nice and cool, but I am also a bit restless. Also came back with lots of famers market goodies, the bounty this year right now is huge!

So with all that said we need a new beer! What's new for our hero today?!?!

Utah Sage Saison - Epic Brewing Company

Epic Brewing - Utah Sage Saison

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Release #25.

Uniform body color mostly, with a nice golden glow to it. Slightly opaque and solid looking, a chestnut brown to bronze hue in the middle, and a good middle column of carbonation, although hard to see through the thickness. Head is classic white, slightly creamy, moderate retention and some good soapy staying power, slightly big bubbled too. A very very good looking saison.

Excellent bouquet. Lots of classic farmhouse notes that are noticeable but not overboard, and a great subtle earth green and spicy sweetness. Hints of chamomile and garden herbs, thyme, sage, even an almost lemon sorrel like quality also. Some clove like hints, even some brown dry spiced warmth comes off this also. A sweet earthy delight, great stuff so far.

Palate manages nicely. There's a bit of a shock as the body comes off a little slightly wet at first, but the flavors still manage to transpire. Mid palate brings some good sweetness of thyme and sage, but also some slight sweet mint qualities too. The aftertaste is a big shocker, lingering earth and soft pepper dryness with wonderful matching sage growth and sweetness. Even with a slightly weaker than expected mouthfeel, the quality is very impressive and noticeable.

It's a very unique flavor profile, and this is going to be very appealing to many. It however doesn't have all the great parts of a saison I enjoy immensely, but is still a very worthy brew, and I love it's unique character. Not the saison I want or desire, but one that everyone should try absolutely.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.25 | BA generated score: 4.26

Going to tell my wife that you said that about the glassware :grinning:. It was a freebie from a tap takeover (aka the snifter I would be least saddened by its demise).

This is actually my first time in the panhandle. I have literally stayed everywhere up and down the Atlantic and Gulf sides. Sand is like sugar. Reminds me of Cancun. A little conjested, but expected due to having no way here except a very long bridge.

Hello fellow BA's, first time posting to New Beer Sunday and rating a beer (uncertified) on Beer Advocate so please bear with me. While I wanted North Coast Brewing - Old Rasputin RIS to be my first beer to rate, I thought that would be unfair because of my long standing love for that beer. I thought it was more appropriate to choose a brewery with whom I have a more critical eye with. My official Review.

Southern Tier Brewing Co. - Choklat Oranj

22oz. bottle, not dated, at 40° F. Used a cold water rinsed, room temperature grand snifter glass. Palate was cleansed with Basmati Rice (white), boiled, with nothing added. Note: Dark roast coffee, straight, was consumed an hour prior to
    tasting.

Appearance: Pours black with a quickly dissipating 1 finger width, off-white, almost tan head and very spotty lacing.

Nose: The nose is subtle bitter cocoa and roasted malts with a strong orange aroma which isn’t as sweet as many have stated and seems slightly artificial. As it warms to room temperature the stout characteristics become bolder, balancing out the orange. I’m not sure if this is acceptable practice but I inhale fresh coffee beans then wait a minute to help refresh my olfactory.

Taste: This stays true to being a imperial stout but adds a very nice, airy orange flavor in the finish which doesn’t seem as artificial as the nose would indicate. It’s nicely balanced. Note: Usually if the taste is the same as my notes for the smell I will state that the “taste is concurrent” to avoid redundancy.

Mouth: Medium bodied, almost creamy with a slight coarse feel at the end with some warmth but very little alcohol presence. It is a little thinner than I personally prefer in imperial stouts but still gives me that nice coated feel that I enjoy.

Overall: My palate and olfactory are very sensitive to sweet tasting foods and drinks, so I had my reservations regarding this beer and my experience with the Blackwater series by Southern Tier Brewing Co. has been mixed. That being said, overall, this was an excellent offering. It is a little deceiving when inhaling but is well balanced, not artificially sweet as I assumed, and provides a very pleasant mouthfeel throughout that doesn’t distract from the parade of flavors as described. At such a reasonable price in my area I will definitely be picking this up regularly and store a couple for a few months to see how it develops. Cheers!

Listened to Pink Floyd - Time when writing this haha.
