    Hello NBS friends,

My new beer for the day is Festina Peche, a Berliner by DFH. I checked out the reviews for this beer, and boy, they are all over the place! "Way too sweet." "Way too sour."

Me, I'm throwing in with the folks who found this to be an absolutely delicious warm weather beer. Light and a bit tart, as a Berliner should be, with a hint of peach sweetness. Wish I had more of this in the fridge.

Music for the day: Faces, A Nod Is As Good as a Wink to a Blind Horse. Yea!

    Cheers!

Wow. The Beer Gods hate me today. Here's Failure #2 on NBS: Evil Twin Femme Fatale Sudachi ... an India Pale Ale weighing in at 6%. I got it for an unreasonably cheap Evil Twin price, and an even more unreasonably low ABV for said brewery. Win-win? Not so much.

What is Sudachi? It's a green citrus fruit in Japan that looks like a lime. It is apparently not eaten, but used as a food flavoring in place of vinegar, sources credited to Wikipedia.

Okay, that sounds pretty okay for an IPA additive, I mean citrus, right?

I poured this into my Great Divide cervoise glass. As much Evil Twin as I find myself drinking, I'm surprised I haven't purchased a glass from them, if they even have one, haven't looked. I took this photo in my back yard, and each time I pour this beer, the head explodes. So I left the photo as is, looks ridiculous, but hey whatever. My pumpkin patch is in the background, and no we don't even have pumpkins growing because of something to do with pollination and such. The flowers are pretty, though.

Look: The beer is opaque sunburnt peach? The head -- oh God -- is foamy and frothy, and sea foam is a perfect way to describe it. It's almost white in color, leaves good lacing.

Here's where the problems come fast and quick:

Aroma: Musty carpet and dirty cat litter - ammonia anyone?

Taste: Pee-soaked cat litter with traces of piny hops (in an IPA, hops?) -- wasn't sure I was even drinking beer until I found that piny bite. There is a bitterness here that hop lovers will like, and the aftertaste has some honest to goodness lime juice in it, as per Sudachi fruit, I ... think.

    Mouthfeel: Dry, woody.

Overall: Please ignore this review. This beer is Very Good to other BA's with a score of 86. I, however, chimed in with a sad 2.28 rating which is good for an awesome -40.8 rDev.

Wow. The last time I had an IPA I hated this much was Schlafly Tasmanian IPA. Again -- cat litter. Not that I spend too much time eating dirty cat litter, but you know. Not to belabor the point, but this is why I love BA, reviewing, and beer: You gain experience even from the most horrendous shit you consume. Drain pour? Sorry, I have more character than that. If it doesn't kill you .... This was a real beauty. I'm done here. I'll see you all next week, and continue drinking and reading your posts. Now for a little mood music from one of my favorites:

Something is wrong with me (quiet peanut gallery!). I feel compelled to try this based on your description of how it smells. Back to that whole Bad New Beer Sunday idea.

New American Brown Ale Sunday (week 538)

Greetings fellow NBS'ers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Beauty day, ayy? Warm and not too humid, bright sun and all is right with the world. Crazy morning featuring the return to the manufacture stream of an amazing amount of OCC (Ordinary Corrugated Cardboard) Some lucky trees now need not be cut, that is how I see it. For all those who also take moments to care for our Mother, as always I say Thanks!

Talk about surprises, Chatham brewery is one of the breweries in our "Capital Region" that has had the label of mediocrity for years, as have almost all the breweries in that area. Sorry to you Albany BA's but I doubt you would disagree. Except for Rare Form y'all are really lagging behind in the quality that almost all other areas of the state enjoy. The surprise is that this beer fucking kicks ass. it is excellent, delicious, impeccably crafted, and satisfying.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Go afternoon all fellow NBS followers. And thanks to Maria for another wonderful start. And to all me fellow NBS BIF participants the game is really on now as we head towards the home stretch and prepared to launch the B1 Bombers.

It is a beautiful afternoon here in central NH sunny about 79 with low humidity. To bad after my beer chasing day of yesterday I have so much yard work here to catch up on today.

My new beer this Sunday is from the Smuttlabs side of Smuttynose brewing in Hampton, NH. [IMG]

As I have recent started drinking the Gose style beer and find it to be very refreshing for the warmer weather.
This beer poured a light slightly cloudy very pale yellow when poured into my Smuttynose tulip glass. There was a thin white head which dissolved very quickly.
The nose for this beer was very mild not a lot of aroma to enjoy but perhaps a little hint of the coriander they say is in the beer.
The taste was tart and clean what I have come to expect in most beers of this style I could find the coriander in the taste not over powering but more something you noticed when savoring this beer a little in your mouth.
The mouth feel was clean not overly carbonated. The carbonation was steady throughout the glass which I found surprising as fast as the head disappeared.
All in all not a bad Gose. I am not sure given the price at $6 for a 375ml I would buy it again but maybe. I ended with a total of 3.62 for my rating on this beer.

Well back to the rest of my Sunday chores as I have a bunch of chicken in a beer brine right now that I have to get in the smoker for dinner tonight and still have a lawn that needs mowing.

What's up nbs players. Beaty of a day here on the island. Not sure where it's gonna take me but I'm sure I'll be drinking good beer regardless.

My new beer today is Yacht, a dry hopped session lager, from Stillwater artisanal.

The pour gives a straw golden color with major clarity. Nose is very subtle to me with light breast notes. The dry hopping hits my palate immediately on the first sip. Decently hoppy with a nice funk to it. A nice malt backbone with good flavored of bread and grasses. The mouth feel is excellent. Dry, smooth, and light but not watery at all. Very impressive flavor at just 4.2%. I'm in the low 4's,

I need to point out, the bottle talks about Brett, and I know nothing of Brett beers ... so I'm very naive in my review, there's probably some things I am missing in this beer, but I described it as is, so no matter what I know, the description would not change. Maybe this is like a frat boy describing a BCBS for the first time, I don't know lol but I'm not cool with cat litter.

Welcome aboard! Clearly you take palate cleansing seriously. If that's how you normally roll, cool. Just don't think you have to go to such lengths to swim with us in the NBS pond!

Love the Old Raspy myself. That was the beer that led me to BA. It's one of the few I love on nitro.

Hey, no need to "haha" the Floyd. One of my all-time-favorite bands. Coming up fast on the 21st anniversary of seeing them live. Crappiest seats I've ever had at a show, and didn't care after the first 5 minutes, it was that awesome.

I hear you. I have done the drain pour, but they've been rare. It's the nuclear option of beer drinking.

Hi everyone. Hope I'm doing this right, it is is my first official NBS.

Got a BA Sexual Chocolate from a great guy dave_treat!

A cold, rainy summer day seemed appropriate for a big BA stout. Aggressive pour generated very little head. Smell is huge sweet bourbon, maybe whifs of chocolate, but mostly bourbon. Lacing is nice, almost psychedelic after a good swirl. Taste is sweet up-front, then boozy on the tongue, and chocolate on the way down. For a beer that only sits in barrels for 4 months, this beer has really engulfed the bourbon. Overall, an enjoyable BA stout.

I get drain pouring on the most basic level, but it is rare in life for me to literally hate a beer so much that i pour it, i never have. I have drain poured because I was too intoxicated, and that 11% dopplebock just didn't work after drinking all day. Nothing to do with taste though. I guess beer is easier than food, but i can't recall ever ordering food and just throwing it in the trash LOL see what i mean?

See? Been sayin'. It could be fun, but only if you know ahead of time it's probably gonna be crappy. Plus, it'd be cool to go slummin' and maybe discover something positive about a beer when you didn't expect to.

    Went to a new store...
(image source) --> looks like ketchup and mustard bottles on the façade :stuck_out_tongue:

Don't know when this photo was taken that people were able to back in and park - crazy traffic late yesterday morning - nice shop though. As I say in my review - not necessarily somewhere you go out of your way to get to, but a good craft beer store for the the area.

Bought a handful of new(-ish) beers...
...though only a couple made it to today  - had the toasted porter and organic chocolate stout yesterday...

Today picked up an unbranded small snifter for $2.50 at Bed Bath and Beyond :flushed:
My only unbranded snifter is large, so this was a great moment for me.

Also, some rando treats and new bottle stoppers...

And now I'm having a new beer from the Beer of Fame list...
There's like a handful of remaining BoF beers that I have routine access to...

    This was one of them...
Don't drink a lot of brown ales or brown lagers.

But the ones I've had have typically been very good.
    This was no exception.

But of course, it's a Weihenstephaner :sunglasses:
Smooth, some chocolate character, some soft fruit like date and fig...

    Finishing...
Nice muted sugars and dark bready malts, but with a light, smooth, feel and finish...

There is no way fans of the style do not love this beer.

    Cheers
