In a country that values business as much as ours does, the ownership and business practices of all companies should be scrutinized as aggressively as possible. If in that scrutiny a consumer finds something they don't agree with I think it is perfectly fine, and welcomed, when people boycott all of their products. Saying they "suck" as in they taste bad, without actually trying it, is out of line though. I don't purchase BMC stuff at all, but I would never say the products they make suck. Bourbon County Stout is awesome, as is Pilsner Urquell. While those are excellent beers, I will not judge the products based on its' own merits (ie, what's in the bottle), the people who make it, more specifically the people who own it, will indeed be looked at when I make a decision.

Which imported lager are you buying that you feel doesn't taste as good as it should?

I often see very old Weinstephaner products. I've had many of their offerings within a month of bottling and they are superb. Having them much older, while not a terrible experience, isn't enjoyable as when they are fresher. So it's not so much of me "feeling" that they don't taste as good as they "should", it's more of me knowing that they could taste much better.

When I go to Les Vegas, to an upscale bar in an upscale casino and the beer choices are Bud Light, Miller Light, Coors Light, Shock Top and Stella Artois.

Just sort of underlines the lack of authenticity of the whole "upscale" and "cool" endeavor, in my mind.

A month? Don't see how that is possible to travel and clear customs in a month. I also don't understand how you could complain if you get Weihenstephaner with just a month on them. I guess you are seeing older ones because you are your neighbors are not buying them fast enough

Maybe it's more than a month that I get them, but it's definitely fresher than the eight month old bottles I see sitting around at times. Also, to be clear, I'm not complaining about month old (or whatever the fastest time line is for Weinstephaner to get to RI) that I'm buying. I appreciate it very much. I'm frustrated by the aforementioned eight month old bottles. Also, I'm not really complaining about anything, just voicing a pet peeve, which is what the thread is about.

I do it primarily so it doesn't shred the packing material (particularly if said packing material is a ziploc bag in my suitcase. It'll make zero difference on leakage.

Any chance you can elaborate on when we should start looking again? Bass was one of the first beers I liked back in the '90s, but recently it's just seemed meh - this could explain a lot of that.

Yes. Most noobs drink beer and just enjoy. But some can be beer imperialists who try to convert and conquer. And that will never end well.

Bad news: 805 and Easy Jack. Blecch.

I can only repeat this (for very necessary emphasis):
    The myth of waxed caps.
This does nothing for the beer. No brewer (that is being honest) will disagree with that fact.
I am not opposed to marketing strategies like this, it's the myth that is perpetuated that this somehow preserves the beer beyond the bottling process alone.

Can't give a firm date. Hopefully by the end of the year. I could probably send you an IM once I know it's out in the wild (although - we can't really control how long older stock stays on shelves).

That'd be awesome if you would. Stock's obviously going to sit for a while, but at least if I know what batches/dates to look for, I'm definitely up for revisiting an old favorite.
