I hear what you are saying but there is a valid reason why for example [this relates to beer] that the term "baby stroller mafia" was coined in Park Slope. For starters they go in packs and take up the whole sidewalk and then they invade entire bars/restaurants...

I miss the days when this thread was about beer.

It is actually an important point.
Its one of the reasons why there is not a brewery in PS because its such a pricey area.
Instead with everything in Gowanus/Red Hook/Sunset Park/Bushwick/Greenpoint areas..
Call me crazy but you may eventually see Bierkraft move too. Almost all the smaller stores are getting forced out and replaced with chain stores. Most stores rents have gone up 3-5x in the past 2/3 years over there.

It's also why you barely see any half decent breweries existing in Manhattan and almos certainly why Queens is turning into a major beer destination for NYC.

I think it has more to do with the lack of Industrial Zoning. Park Slope is pretty much all residential.

Other Half is technically in Carrol Gardens. Apartments a block away are going for $3,500 a month.

I see your point but then again Greenpoint has breweries mixed in with residential (first floor stores) just like Park Slope.
Keg and Latern for example is at the base of an apartment building.
Where as your not really seeing stuff popup in Williamsburg which has plenty of mixed use spaces. [mega pricey]
Plus\ being on the one side of the BQE and right next to the canal [oh the smell!] helps a tiny bit with the rent.

Wow. I'm sure many will be fist-pumping, but I for one will miss the place.

I was surprised to find them closed yesterday, I was there growler in hand and surprised to find the grills/grates were down. I was looking forward to choosing between the Barrier Kapow! and Finback Moby Hop.

Damn that's crazy. When I lived over there I would walk to Bierkraft for a growler fill and then hit Zito's for a sandwich on the way back up the hill.

Per the bierkraft instagram they said they are renovating. No closure.

Yeah just looked there - hope it's true, but not convinced given twitter / website / zero communication

This seems like one of those instances where it's "renovating" but actually closed though, doesn't it? Restaurants that close in the city do that all the time. The fact that it deleted its twitter account and web page seem to suggest this is the case. If it were just renovating, wouldn't they keep those and just say that?

I guess you can't call me crazy then as I sort of called that but it's not really surprising when you find out about the rental prices in PS.
The prices are starting to reach all the way to my hood (Sunset Park) and places are closing because they are used to cheap rent.
In fact quite a few places that left PS are rumored to be opening near me.. We have not really any good bars/beer shops .. I have been through this cycle a few times in other parts of BK so it's easy to see when an area is about to completely change over...

The signs are not good - I don't see them reopneing in the same place.
I can't even count how many times I have seen this "renovation" thing happen and the place never reopened.
    But hopefully I am wrong!

Rents went way way up. Those places are now paying as much or more than places in Manhattan per square foot..
Spoke recently to a real estate person over there and heard in a lot of cases rents have gone up 2-3x for commercial spaces.
Its one of the reasons you are seeing a lot of big chains open up or will see even more ope up over there...
