I'd say they're the best in Brooklyn. I can't forget about Grimm from NYC as well as a few others.

Stouts, Saisons, Farmhouse, Grand Cru, Rauchbier, Biere De Garde, Wheat Ale, Blonde Ale, Flanders, Kolsch, ESB, Tripels, Wheat Wine, and a decent Barrel Aging program.

 

They do, they just had about a month or so when they were just putting out IPAs. That is not the norm though.

I love OH - not quite sure though that they warrant best brewery in the Eastern half of the USA....yet. Good to see they have some super fans though

 

I am saying hands-down best in NY State. Not best on East Coast, but their best IPAs can go toe to toe with HF, Trillium, Tree House, etc.

 

Aside from the kolsch which was hopped with mosaic to oblivion - are the other non ipas also over hopped? Cool Summer Bro is still my favorite OH beer.

 

I'm just disappointed there are no choices for best in United States, best in North America, best in the Northern Hemisphere and Best in the World.

 

Is one of the new amazing breweries that have come on line in the area in the last 5 years.
Off the top of my head guys with IPAs on par with OH are Grimm, Singlecut, Peekskill, Barrier, R using Duck and so on. Way too many great guys in the local market these days. Other Halve's non-IPA stuff definitely isn't rocking worlds like some of the other guys though. Double Negative vs Smoke Screens and Oil Slicks. I'd suggest chilling the hype. And that's without mentioning Plan Bee.

 

i kind of rolled my eyes at this thread initially, but then I remembered I have 2 bottles left of *their first beer ever* and at some point someone gonna want to trade for them if this hype train keeps rolling on. please?

... thing to happen to NYC beer lovers who:
A) enjoy great, big, local, expensive IPAs
B) enjoy being part of a local thing with growing national attention

 

Agreed with the hoppy beer comment, OH has the deepest roster.

I also would put Double Negative up against In Absentia.

 

OH is great and I would agree best in NYC but it's no where near the heavyweights up north in VT and MA

 

I believe OH is tied with Singlecut as the best at making hoppy beers in NY... Until I have a beer that blows me away that isn't an IPA, I'd have to consider either Ommegang or Southampton as the best NY breweries overall

 

And anyone who actually voted other half as best brewery in the Eastern half of the U.S. should have to disclose that they've made pilgrimages to New England lol
