We aren't talking about constructive comments, we are talking about comments trying to inflate or deflate trade value and those comments being very obvious because they are way off or seem like they have an motive.

Like it or not, this is a forum. The nature of a forum is public by default. Constructive comments can open up a discussion and help the trade along. I can't imagine getting a bunch of PMs each time posting a trade to clog my inbox nor do I fear criticism of the trade I posted preventing the trade from happening. If I'm off, I'm happy to hear it publicly. I find that often ego gets in the way of both sides, posters and commenters, that's when things go south. If the poster keeps an open mind and the commenters intend on being constructive and make actual rational helpful comments, it works for the best IMHO.

As said, forum is default to public and comments are allowed by the system, if you don't want public criticisms of your trade offers, simply put "Please comment via PM only". People know when their comments are not wanted.

Can we count reviews as trade hype, because look at this one:

    4.9/5 rDev +2.9%
    look: 5 | smell: 5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 5 | overall: 5

Great version of a lambic. Blows any AWA out of the water including DDG, beat, etc. Should trade very very high

    This is for New Glarus R&D 2014 - http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/590/174974/
Literally nothing said about the taste, aroma or appearance. Just saying what it's better than and how high it should trade.

I find some of the ratings for Vintage 2014 to be particularly egregious in this department, but that's just me. It's a reflection of how things work these days- beer trades based on hype, bottle counts and perceived secondary/open market value, rather than how it actually tastes. I think some people are into/respect the hobby less than others, that's all I'll say about this.

IDK, My buddy has made a couple really generous trading partners on this site. It sucks for someone new though, coming into this trading thing just to get screwed over by systematic hype generators, lowballers, and other general #newmoney tactics.

It's definitely gotten worse over the years, used to be about just trading for fun. Now there are so many people looking to win...selling shit on the secondary market... fuck those people.

I had the thought 'I wonder how many '14 R&D reviews have it up for trade as well'. Did a rough count this afternoon ('cause I am a slacker at work) it was about a third...

I got bored of searching about 25 reviews in, but fuck me... I truly hope it is that good, and it isn't people just pumping and dumping, but fuck that shit.

I hate that shit...same with most releases which is sad. Last 2 I remember being bad are Kiwi Herman and the Resolute variants. If you look at Derivation reviews, there is a discrepancy between Missouri (5's) and everyone else for reviews

Luckily there are some trustworthy (in my opinion) reviewers who I always look to for WI beers... @Ri0 and @Stevedore

Yeah, having some go to reviewers certainly helps. Fortunately I am not into sours at all, so I don't have to worry about it as much. It seems these days many of the super hyped beers are sours from tiny releases.

I do wonder a bit how many people actually cracked a bottle before posting FT - if it was that fucking good, and I could only buy a few bottles you would be prying it from my cold dead fingers. Oh, and I would tell everyone it was really shit so I could go back the next day and pick up more...

Ive messaged quite a few of the WI traders because I am looking to pick up a few more bottles...most were able to go multiple days and/or had a significant other along.

I think people here just get excited that they have a "tradeable" beer and they are looking to grab other highly ranked brews that they figure they couldnt get without trading the R&D beers.

Fair. Still, if it was that amazing... I feel like R&D peach is the driver of a lot of this - people went batshit over that and now everyone is anticipating each new release and hoarding accordingly.

Also - random question - did they do black gold in 2 bottle sizes? I dream of that beer...

    • Black Gold is Central Waters and yes, different beers, different sizes. The 2013 was 12 oz and was 1414 aged for 35 months in 25 year barrels. 2014 was 22 oz and was 16 aged longer.

Ah, so there is my mistake, I always thought it was only made the one year. I have a few seventeens - really looking forward to them. CW is one of my favorite breweries on this earth. Can't wait for the BB scotch to hit in the next few weeks.

It's probably a pretty damn good beer, New Glarus is solid, but there are definitely reviews for almost all the traded breweries that are purely to inflate the value.

Happens to Funky Buddha beers, people trying to trade off the watered down More Moro (aka Less Moro) but the news got out. Happened with Muy Bonitas, it was pretty bad on draught and I overheard at least one guy say it was terrible but he was trading it away so he didn't care. Maple Bacon is widely regarded as a shell of it's former glory back when it was on at the Lounge, but was luaded as perfect almost universally by Florida raters trying to trade them. It was a good beer (both bottles), but the thing is a lot of people who got it in a trade and rated it highly have never had the original that generated the hype in the first place.

Last Snow bottles have been the best bottle Funky's put out to date, and even that isn't as good as the original at the lounge...the thing is they never will be. The lounge was special, very small, all those brewers are gone and the whole system is different. The recipes have to be changed to scale up, the bottling process even changes the taste, but hopefully they keep dialing it in. Pretty much every bottle release, with the exception of More Moro, has been an improvement from the last, but you guys are getting a far worse beer than the ones that generated the hype to begin with.

Those prescription label bottles...those were the real Mccoy...anyway kind of went on a tangent there but yeah, review inflation is a real problem.

I agree, I am sure it is a very, very good beer, but there is a weird psychology that everyone seems to have on both sides - it must be great because I want it so bad... Said by the man drinking a KBS... but well, that shit is fucking awesome and you will get my last 2 bottles of this years only by breaking and entering. Kind of my point really. If it is that good, it would be held more tightly.
