There us probably a subset of them for whom confirmation of their American identity is important. That does not mean easily swayed, but that the marketing campaign helps. A look at the commenter on the Bud FB page is interesting. Whom do you think the flag waving campaign is aimed at?

Honestly AVBC Gose is usually $9 for 6. You can get 18-24 for $12 of PBR.

The only one of those 10 breweries that still as anything but a label is Anheuser-Busch.

I find it near impossible to defend Natural Ice. If its ice cold then yeah its refreshing but as it warms up dear god no.

Thanks. I just took the initial (PBR) story at face value, it was pretty widely broadcast. Glad it didn't go through though.

PBR...despite everything it has a decent taste in the bottle...when out to see music and when you know you are going all night it does the trick...I truly believe it has a better taste than its peers...

Thank you for your insights, and for not assuming a superior and condescending demeanor, a pitfall that too many folks succumb to. It's always good when people openly share their knowledge.

I was basing my supposition on a description of the history of an Ohio brewery that referred to lines of farmers' wagons waiting at the brewery to unload their grain during harvest. I'll see if I can find the quote.

You are right, but it's made to chug . It's not going to warm up a lot in 2 minutes!

Oh, yeah - it happened. Especially in the case of breweries that did their own malting and, after all, 13% of barley wasn't grown in those big barley producing states. Just that, by the end of the 19th century, it was not common practice for brewers to buy barley direct from local farmers. (Since corn, the most favored adjunct, typically was used in the form of corn meal, grits, flakes or syrup, that, too, would probably have been purchased from a brewing supply company that processed it, rather than from the grower).

Here's a rare post-Repeal example of a brewery contracting for locally grown barley (Genesee bought a malt house on Lake Ontario after Repeal, which they claimed was the only brewery-owned malthouse "in the east". They were even floor-malting in the beginning.):

Maybe you can't tell that is sarcastic by reading it. I'll give you that. But, let's assume for a second that I really was under the impression that all these beers helped, in some form or fashion, to "forge" America. Is that how you comment to someone? If you read the last comment I posted, it pretty much sums up what I wanna say about the douche-a-tude. There's no need for that kind of behavior, or the false sense of higher intelligence. Just....c'mon.

From that list - High Life isn't bad. Lack of flavor more than bad flavor.

but here in PA, Yuengling is typically the same price.
