Seems really odd given the extremely small number of bottles that these wouldn't just be tastings.

But the auction thing really goes too far if it wasn't for charity (which I gather it wasn't).

Not that I'd ever shop there, but if I were a prospective or occasional customer, that sort of thing would make me never go back. I hope you get to try the Vanilla somewhere else soon!

I scored a bottle of vanilla rye a while back and gave it to my best friend as a graduation gift. Kid earned that bomber. So I'm sure he will give me a shout when he decides to crack it.

Does anyone know if the event at Modern Pastry actually requires a ticket to attend? The bit.ly link goes to eventbrite, and the event says sold out.

    gross.

FWIW, i called the foundry yesterday and both the hostess and bar manager claimed no knowledge of the goose island event. Now either they were trying to keep it hush hush, or they were complete jackwagons, or it actually isnt happening. I couldnt care either way really. I'll probably stroll by regardless.

At this point I would not waste my time at one of these events if I was paid to be there

No idea, but I have a ticket and in the spirit of this thread I am obligated to charge you obscene amount for it since I got it for free and all... /s

I keep reading these replies and just wanted to chime in and say how well-organized the one at Sperry's Liquors in Hudson was on Wednesday.

It was scheduled from 4-6:30; my girlfriend and I got there probably around 5. There was a table just inside the door with the desserts/whoopie pies and the GI reps were very friendly when we came in, chatting and talking about the beers. The beers we sampled were Pepe Nero, BCBS and the Vanilla Rye variant.

Also, available for sale were 4-packs of BCBS (2014) and I did purchase one at the register. There may have been a raffle or sale of some sorts with the Vanilla Rye left over after the event concluded (someone hinted at that), but we stayed for probably another half hour, bought some other beer in the store and left.

All in all, a very well-done tasting and will be back to this store (that I'd never been to before) in the future.

This re-affirmed that chasing whales is a fools errand. You get all excited thinking "finally!" and then it is not as advertised. I don't need bottles and bottles of Vanilla Rye to post in the 'Latest Haul' thread, but I would enjoy a 4oz pour just so I can find out what that variant tastes like! Looks like Ill be buying some vanilla beans and soak them in Rye to put in my Randall with BCBS. Really changed my perspective on GI after all this..Not worth it.

Surprisingly reasonable prices - I know it's only at 6oz pour but CBS was like $15 for an 8 oz at Cambridge Common. Still debating whether or not to go. I think it's going to be crazy.

Not too crowded at Joshua Tree. $14 for a 10oz pour of 2013 bcbs, $9 for Matilda lambicus. Clearly not everyone is here for Migration week, the guy next to me just asked for a ufo, "the one with the orange on top". If anyone us around, I'm the guy in the pinkish (salmon?) dogfish shirt.

I'm sure we're all near each other. Already had the Coffee at Bones, '13 BCBS at Joshua Tree plus Lunch and now Proprietors.

As has already been stated all bars pretty chill. Reps are awesome too.
