My wife and her friend are going to a wedding at Lake Geneva from Iowa. I'm a huge New Glarus fan, but would like her to bring back some bombers or sixes of your state's better offerings. IPAs and stouts. Where do they shop for these around that area? Cheers!
Ahh yes...tourist season is amongst us in southern WI. So what exactly are you looking for around these parts? New Glarus I presume? Central Waters perhaps? Lakefront, Ale Asylum, Karben 4 oh my! First things first, Brunos is the best shop in LG. You're not gonna find anything rare or crazy, but it's a one stop shop for New Glarus. CW coffee stout and Tyranena Brewers Gone Wild series may still be hiding on the shelves. Perhaps some other gems if you are so inclined. Keep an eye out for Velveteen Habit by Ale Asylum. If you'd like some mix a six action you can head down the road near Dairy Queen and swing by Geneva Liquors. Now I'm not the biggest fan of this place, nor have I been there in over a year, but they always broke up NG sixers for the Fibs so they wouldn't make them themselves. Sorry Fibs, but ya'll know it's true. If your wife feels like taking a 10 minute drive west, there's Sonoma Cellars in Delavan. It's a quaint little store with a nice selection of bombers and six packs. Things seem to stick around a while out there since the clientele has dwindled. They lost their main beer buyer years back and the store slipped pretty drastically. Seems they're back on the up and up so it might be worth the trip. On your way back to the LGC, be sure to swing by Bells convenient store in Williams Bay. I often find CW Brewer Reserve 4 packs there months after they sell out everywhere else. Little pricey, but worth the one minute detour. Finally there's Geneva Lake Brewing Company. I will let you explore them on your own. They have bombers, 6 pack cans and growlers available at the brewery. It's a short jaunt south of Walmart. I would certainly check dates if your wife picks up Implosion or any IPA. They're pretty sketchy and I haven't been shy about my feelings with them. I think that about sums things up. If anything crosses my mind or if you have any specific questions feel free to shoot me a BM! Cheers and have fun in LG! Thanks @Rio for the alert.
Thanx for all the info! I will have her stop at Bruno's. I can get a limited selections of Central Waters here. I'm sure that area has more selections, though. My neighbor is from Wisconsin and brings me back treats every so often. I'm jealous that NG stays put as far as distribution goes. That's a top 3 brewery you guys have there.
My wife did great! Thanx for the assistance. I'm a TG fan but, NG is 2nd on my list. And that is not a put down. Moon Man is in my top 10 of beers regardless of style. I need a 3rd fridge.
Moon Man, Raspberry Tart, Belgian Red, Naked Lady, Spotted Cow ( for her and her friends, I am not a fan. Kind of like TG Dorothy's lager. What's the point. Lakefront IPA. NG Berliner Weiss and NG Apple ale
With my Pseudo Sue, Intergalctic Warrior, Xhops White, 1492, and Light Speed. I could croak today and be happy!
Love this thread as I will be headed up to LG in the middle of July I too am hoping to grab some good ole WI treats
Headed up to LG/Elkhorn for Labor Day weekend. Any shops near there get TG Distro? Would it be Bruno's? Also, I have never gone looking for CW though I've enjoyed some of their BA's through friends. Do they have any out right now that would still be on a shelf? Are their regular IPA types worth a look? Thanks for any tips! I'll be grabbing some old favorites from NG while in town for sure
