I think Top Shelf Marathon is pretty damm solid. Never been to the brewery so I can't speak to that. But if I'm looking for CT IPAs and can't find Sea Hag, then I'm going Marathon now. Until Firefly Hollow Cone Flakes comes out in cans next month that is.

Have to give mad love to Steady Habit in East Haddam. Their offerings never disappoint. The BBQ stand out front is great too.

I know this is subjective, but Top Shelf isn't even in the discussion. NEBCO, Beer'd, and OEC make the best beer that I've personally had. Firefly and Stubborn Beauty have some strong offerings as well. Have heard that Steady Habit is amazing too.

It's technically in Haddam, but YES I agree that Steady Habit is not to be missed!

Next month ain't happening, from what I hear, but "soon", and I agree with your assessment. (on Firefly)

NEBCO, Beer'd & OEC...I'm a little surprised with all the love for Steady Habit, which I think is a big drop from these other 3 breweries.

wow, you've had enough beers from Steady Habit to make a statement like this and you really think their beer is a "big drop" from NEBCO and Beer'd? kind of blows my mind but hey, everybody's got different tastes.

yeah, i think you should give steady habit another go. their beer is amazing.

i've yet to try OEC... are their bottles popping up around CT? I rarely make it out of the city. stuff looks great, i'll have to hit the tasting room some time over the summer.

Right...I've probably had 10+ beers from each NEBCO, OEC, and Beer'd. I've only had Geek Nip, Techno Viking, and Our Daily Bread from Steady Habit and Wasn't wowed of any of these 3.

Given that this is a site to discuss unique opinions, it's nice of you to question my knowledge/opinion simply since we have differing opinions. Yes, I believe that's enough beer to express my opinion.

I love OEC (and B. United by extension) but would think it's easier to qualify and quantify American hoppy beers vs centuries old obscure German styles.

you said "I'm a little surprised with all the love for Steady Habit, which is a big step down from these other 3 breweries." and then I expressed my own surprise at your post. it was a very simple and fair exchange.

No, you questioned whether I had enough Steady Habit to make that statement...

what? that's some bizarre reading comprehension. it's clear as day that my surprise was someone could have had enough steady habit and come up up with the conclusion that they beer they brew is a big step down from NEBCO and Beer'd. it's exactly the same as you saying you're surprised that your fellow BA'ers hold Steady Habit in such high regard, except it's my expression of surprise that you think it's "a big step down."

First of all I said a 'big drop' ...there was no bolding to overemphasize this statement. I simply think the 10+ beers I've had at all the other breweries were better than these 3. So what? That's my viewpoint. How many beers do you think it takes to make this conclusion? My comment was simply one of surprise (really didn't anticipate seeing so much love for a relatively new brewery)...I didn't then send everyone a note and ask them how many OEC, Beer'd and NEBCO beers they've had before.

You want it to be one way. But it's the other way.

    /facepalm at all of this.

i can't imagine not being wowed by "our daily bread" but of course people have different tastes.

i mean, shit, i'd rather drink cascade apricot than most cantillon. i'd rather drink cambridge brewing company cerise cassee than *any* other wild ale.

for hoppy beers my tastes ride pretty close to the beer geek norm (dank VT heavyhitters, still have love for fresh pliny, love NEBCO and steady habit, trillium, MBC when they're really on and the beer is fresh, etc). can't think of too many outliers for me there...

anyway, taste is subjective. the confusing thing is how in line steady habit's style is with the popular hoppy beers. i mean our daily bread is pretty much the best hoppy beer i've had since fresh "what is enlightenment?" i'd rather kill a growler of that than a 4pk of heady, not that it's "better" but i like it more.

yeah, this was clearly all I was saying with my response. though I was speaking about the breadth :sunglasses: of Steady Habit's portfolio.

I like Nebco as much as anyone, but Steady Habit is #1 for me, without question.

My wife and I stopped by OEC Friday on our way down to NYC. I grabbed 2 bottles of what was available (10 bottles total) and a growler of Brunneis. Really enjoyed it and am looking forward to working my way through the bottles. These are the ones I got.

    Artista Zynergia: Gosateqin - 750ml
    Malefactus (Wine Barrel Aged #1) - 500ml
    Nepenthes Hydromelita (Blend #1) - 500ml
    Phantasma Sour (Blend #2) - 750ml
    Tempus (Blend #4) - 750ml
