Gooood Morrrrrnnnnning all you Dads Devoted to Drinking Delectable Dubbels, Dark Milds, Dunkelweizens, and Dortmunders, Fathers Fond of Fantastic Faro, and Paters Partaking of Pleasingly Perfect Porters and Pale Ales (and Everyone Else also). Happy New Beer Sunday, special early morning Fathers Day edition.

Raining like crazy here. Hate to complain about it at a time when parts of the country are flooded, other parts are in severe drought, and it has been discovered that man is rapidly using up the world's fresh water supply, with a third of the groundwater already used up and poulation exploding. My concern now, though, is having to work in the rain today after having ripped my last rain poncho yesterday.

Ah, but today we have new beers with which to toast our Dad's. Whether they be alive or no longer with us, their gifts remain always in our hearts and memories. To my Dad, gone now these long ten years, and to all Dads, here is to you!

Won't you join us in trying a new beer today? When you do, imagine yourself at a tasting table, one that exists only in the minds of all of us as we enjoy beers and talk about them here, together. Feel free to tell us a little about yourself as well.

Don't have to post a review, many of us do, though, and it is traditional on this 10+ year old thread. But let us know about the beer if you would. What do you like about it? What are some characteristics? Do you recommend it? Not your cup of 'tea'? Folks have discovered beers they like from other folks here on NBS, and been warned away from other beers too. A few lines that tell a story about your new beers are all you need to do. Feel free to post a pic, link to your review, and tell us about the music you are listening to. Thanks for "stopping by" Maybe you will like it here and come every Sunday.

And, as always, thanks for your participation, keeping NBS fresh, fun, and informative for 10+ years. Cheers!

Happy Father's Day Dave. Hope you stay dry today (as in rain, not beer). Maybe I'll get a chance to post here later.

Cheers to my father, the most honorable, hard-working, and fair-minded person I have ever known. Words can't truly express all that he has given me. May I someday be 1/10th the man he is. Happy Father's Day to all other fathers as well. I have a few errands to do, but I'll be back in a few hours with a review. Until then...

Good morning, and Happy Father's Day to all of you Beer Advocate Dads out there. Kansas has finally rid itself of rain, and it's looking hot and windy from here on out. Upper 90's ... Today is a special day. I happen to be a father. A dad. A pop ... (pun fully intended!)

My post this morning for New Beer Sunday took an unexpected turn, it's not going to be as complete as I'd originally planned. Here's why: After discovering that my great state of Kansas received distribution of Not Your Father's Root Beer a few days ago, I started planning the greatest Father's Day New Beer Sunday post ever. I was going to go to World Market, pick up some Dad's Root Beer, and do a side-by-side review for today's post -- on Father's Day. The perfect plan. Until ...

World Market was sold out of Dad's Root Beer. It's the only place I can buy it in my entire city. You will notice that I have a Dad's Root Beer shaker pint. I've had it for years, so you should know I really do love root beer. See why I was so excited about today's New Beer? Well, I'll just stick to reviewing the beer then, but man, it was almost the perfect post  And I do like the play on words ... Not Your Father's Root Beer and ... well, Dad's Root Beer. My head about exploded when I started planning this. Let's go:

Look: The beer pours out like a soda, or actual root beer. It's a cola brown color with a ruby hue coming through in the light. The head is cream colored and fizzy. It immediately fizzles away leaving only a collar around the edges. Just like a real soda. Or pop. I realize different regions use different words. I always say pop.

Aroma: Pure cane sugar, lactose sweetness, and sassafras -- it has that lovely winter mint aroma, like some flavors of chewing gum that is found in various kinds of root beer, such as Dad's. If you inhale deeply, you may find just a hint of alcohol, but it's barely there if at all.

Taste: It tastes exactly like root beer. Sassafras, clove, minty chewing gum ... It's root beer with 5.9% alcohol in it. It's absolutely delicious! Carbonation is perfect, just like real pop.

Mouthfeel: Watery, carbonated. Goes down so easy.

Overall: I notice as it warms, the alcohol does become a little noticeable, but it's still very well hidden. Also as it warms, the cane sugar taste really presents itself. I still cannot believe this is a beer. I better not leave any of this in the fridge, if my son got into one of these it would be bad news. I rated this 4.57 which is good for a +6.5% rDev. I absolutely love this beer, because I love root beer and this is it. I pondered how to rate such a beer. I mean do I compare it to pop, or do I compare it to actual beer that's flavored like root beer? I went with the root beer comparison, so I feel my score is justified. Look -- if you are a soda/pop drinker and love root beer, you absolutely MUST try this. I believe it's being sold nationwide now (there's a thread for it on BA even). I really like this a lot. It will make a great root beer float, or make a wonderful dessert beer. Be careful ... that 5.9% ABV could sneak up on you because a 6 pack could go down in about 30 minutes

Well then. I have some chores to do, and I also need to call my Dad and talk to him. This post didn't go as planned, but I am not discouraged, it is still going to be one of my all-time favorite experiences on Father's Day New Beer Sunday edition. I still have many new beers in my fridge, but I may leave today's shenanigans with only one post. The rest of my new beer is high octane bombers ... I try to avoid high ABV beers at all cost on Sundays. I always feel better on Monday when I keep things light  Here's a song I found yesterday that I find very touching, melancholy, and in a weird way appropriate. Cheers BA.

Good morning, NBSers, and thanks to Dave for indulging us early morning topers with these early starts!

Today, I'm enjoying some of the spoils from my Vermont trip yesterday. First up: 14th Star Maple Breakfast Stout.

Hey, can't blame me; it says "breakfast" right there on the can.

Pretty solid brew overall; nothing amazing, nothing offensive. There's a nice underlying, woody sweetness to it, a touch like cola. At 5.5% ABV, this actually is a breakfast stout, something you can toss back without needing to take an immediate nap.

@JuicesFlowing I love that song. Never seen that version before, though (the solo acoustic). Great song, though.

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there, and all you who love your dads. It's not my favorite day of the year. Thanksgiving is pretty solid, though.

If all goes as planned today I'll be back this evening to report on a new Kolsch-style beer, the Sierra Nevada version.

Meanwhile there is a trip to the gym to be made, a few items on the "honey-do" list to be taken care of and some Daddy's Day duties to be done.

    Later, all.

Zywiec Porter has a fairly thick, foamy, beige head, a dark brown appearance, and some lacing left behind. The aroma is of dark-roasted, but not burnt, malt and coffee, and the flavor is of the same, with sweetness, chocolate, chicory, coffee, and a trace of hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and velvety, and Zywiec Porter finishes semi-dry and very drinkable for such a high-alcohol beer.

Cheers everyone and Happy New Beer Sunday. Today I have another beer from Brooklyn. In fact I had Brooklyn's local 1 for today but I drank it in a moment of weakness. Because it's father's day I have been thinking about how we define ourselves. I think we can define ourselves but only to a certain point then you must accept that you are defined by where you come from or by the people you are with. In my case I was with immigrants. Hicks, locals, and yokels. The kind of people you might consider to be rubes. No matter they had humor, and elan, wit and spontaneity. In fact I think that the civilization I observe in my hometown is largely due to their influence. As much as the university would like to say "it is this institution that is the focal point of this town" it really can't be. The reason it can't be is because it leaves out twice a year and the constant then are the people who live here year round. We have a brilliant atmosphere here. One of acceptance, diversity and pure zest for life and living it. I also think we define ourselves by the mistakes we make.

Brooklyn defines itself by making lots of styles even traditional styles . . . and well. This is their brown ale.

Pours a healthy dark brown with a lovely garnet hue. Nose is subtle but it's all malt and no hops. The taste is pure ease. A lovely creamy malt, very smooth and with a touch of caramel. No hops in the flavor but they do come up for balance in the finish. This malt is very dry but seems to roll across the palate so smoothly and without any coarse texture. No astringency. Very good. A bit thin. It does develop a slight nuttiness as it warms but by then the glass is done.

So I have a gratin to make and I shall be back with another regional a father's day two-fer! Cheers NBS!

My father's been dead for thirty years and it gets tougher each passing year to remember him. I do remember that I wanted to be a good dad like he was, and I think my kids will say I've been successful at that.

I picked this up the other day. It turned out to be a rather nice hoppy saison.
Poured it into a teku. It had a dark gold color with a medium-sized white head. There was a smidge of lace.

Mostly a sweet fruit aroma. The hops represented with citrus and pine. In the background was that yeasty Belgian funkiness.

Banana taste up front, then some citrus and pine resin, more citrus than pine. Sugary.

Light to medium bodied. Easy to drink for an almost 8% ABV.

Cheers, @utopiajane ! Are you in Ithaca, by any chance? My nephews just finished their first year studying music up there, but as you said, they have brought their hell-raising back to LI for the summer. I bet even the quiet times in a college town have the feeling of a calm before the storm, to a certain extent.

About the Brooklyn Brown, I am surprised that you are getting no hops on the nose. It used to be seen as the exemplar of the style, which uses no small amount of hop aroma. Perhaps it's getting on in age?

Good morning you early NBSers! Not sure if I'll be checking in later today, as I'm about to start work. Today is Baconfest! here in BellingHAM, and we've got set up the event, run the event, and break down the event, all between 8a and 4p. I do have a couple new brews waiting, courtesy of @2beerdogs , and I suspect y'all will be seeing some early results of NBS BIF#2 showing up today, even though the "official" day is next Sunday. Even if I don't get an entry, I'll check on you rascals later!

Yes Sir! Ithaca NY. That's wonderful about your nephews! I bet they are at Ithaca College? That would be "the other college in town." Except for a very vague hops herbal I got no hops . For the bitterness it was only a passing glimpse on the mouthfeel really.

The other college- nice! I haven't been up there since we visited some friends in Dryden in the 90s; I really must make a trip back with my brother one of these days. An all-boys type outing sounds like fun, and something tells me that there's better beer to be had since the last time .

Brooklyn may have toned down that recipe, then. It used to have a distinct citrus/pine hop presence. If I come across a bottle I'll have to revisit it.
