Busch, Genny, Old Mil, Natty, Straub greenies and more Busch…usually in cans. I you think a place is a dive and has Guinness on tap I need to take you bar hopping.

And if you want ACTUAL cat piss ya gotta know a guy:wink:

This is akin to seeing someone drinking a Honker's Ale and proclaiming, "This is the best ale out there" and then handing them a Heady Topper.

I'm not defending Guinness but you gave her a non-nitro Imperial coffee stout with double the ABV. If you handed her an O'Hara's Irish Stout that would be comparable. Although I assume the result would be similar.

I practically never have a Guinness Draught straight, but I drank lots for many years as the upper element in black and tans. This was some years ago, as evidenced by my use of the term black and tan rather than half and half. I bet I'd still like 'em though.

I prefer Murphys for the style. I don't mind it, but there's usually better/different options

You never had Guinness, how can you make that statement?

"Never had a Guinness. Too many other widely available stouts/porters that taste better IMO."

I agree. I took my first trip to Dublin this year and had a few pints of Guinness at the Storehouse. While maybe a bit fresher it is still the same beer we get on tap in US. I found Beamish was a much more flavorful Irish stout.

I really like Guinness and just came back from Ireland and another tour of the brewery, the beer was delish. However, regular Guinness does not have enough alcohol, I can drink that all day and not even get a buzz. I do like the Foreign Extra and even have a bottle I brought back from my recent trip. Something about the irish water that makes the beer brewed there better. Are there more intense stouts, of course, but Guinness is still a great tasting beer.

If you don't like it you don't like the style

    Good beer

I love Guinness FES (especially when in the Caribbean) - I love that style and not many breweries make a FES
next the Extra Stout, a decent non imperial, non BA stout at around $10/6pk in NY
and a regular Guinness draught at a good Irish bar - if that's all they have. No shame in that.
but I'm not a beer snob or too proud to drink a non-ultra craft beer.

The Foreign Extra is not something I will likely ever try again - it was a bit f**ked up.

Guinness regular I will have on occasion when I go to an Irish pub AND they know how to pour it properly.

That said - Guinness Draught has been going downhill ever since they introduced the extra cold stuff and dropped the ABV around 10 years ago - before that it was a decent Irish Dry Stout.

I only "like" Guinness because it's the only thing the bar I watch soccer at takes care of.

Why buy Guinness when I could get SN Stout, Founder's Porter or another full-flavor porter/stout? It just has never been a priority to me to try Guinness, because I don't think I'm missing out on anything special. I don't care if I'm in Dublin and it's fresh on tap, to me it's just not worth bothering with. That might be a bit of an overstatement, but you get the point.

Guinness has executed a brilliant marketing ploy over the years by linking their beer to the over-hyped Irish mythology in the public's mind. Many people lose all objectivity about it. They consider it the very essence of "the auld country". Total rot.

    Crap.

I like dry Irish stouts, but Guinness is a very mediocre version of the style. Try a non-nitro Brooklyn Irish Dry Stout to see what it should be.

If the point is that you have never tried a Guinness and are somehow able to vouch for its inferiority then, yes, point taken.

You are just repeating the oldest beer myth in the world - "the Guinness is better in Ireland". It's total bullshit and has been repeatedly debunked here for many years. Something about the Irish water makes it better?? Total crap. The Guinness draught in North America is brewed at the St. James Gate Brewery in Dublin and is exactly the same as that served in Irish pubs. The water is obviously from the same source. You have much to learn.
