Precisely. That was the idea as it developed over time.

And on the other hand, the "Yoerg Beer" (Yoerg Brewing Company) plan -- as a client brewer(y)-- would not have an on-site taproom presence as we contemporaneously understand such an arrangement to be.

I saw that Omni Brewing just completed the purchase yesterday of their building. They are saying on their kickstarter that they have used up all funds and need more to complete a tap room. Realistic construction timeframe probably means they will be open early Winter. Unless they already started mechanical work, but it doesn't appear to be that way. So I am guessing holiday season at earliest? I obviously could be wrong, but there are so many moving parts and dependencies, and things just get missed easily if there is no brewery experience to fall back on. It has nothing to do with the work ethic or intentions of people, it is just reality.

On another note, I hear there is sourcing issues in the industry, especially for hops. I wonder if new breweries starting up have futures contracts in place, ideally for at least 4 years out? Can these breweries even get the hop varieties they need at all?

Industry people tell me that there is little to no availability of most desired hops unless they are already locked down. Does anyone know if this last point is valid?

I heard somewhere that Bad Habit Brewing (St. Joseph, MN) was planning to start preparing their site on June 15, so I did a little investigating last night. I can confirm that some building has started at their site. If I remember correctly, it was previously a yoga studio. It doesn't look like a brewery in there yet of course, but the transformation is underway. They are still advertising a Fall 2015 opening date.

Sure it's valid, that's why start ups brew a lot of Cascade hopped IPAs. I kid. But, yeah, seriously, a few years ago hop farmers were pulling up their fields to make way for God knows what. The market was lousy. It's going to be tough for start ups initially. I guess the farmers aren't really into craft beer, otherwise they would have seen this coming. That, or there is way more money to be had in corn.

According to the article, the Hudson taproom will remain but brewing will shift to Lucid Minnetonka brewery. That makes sense so they could move the Hudson brew house to the Minneapolis location.

Yet another new brewery that doesn't understand the concept of connotation. Why not just call it You're an Alcoholic Brewing Company. I won't let a brewery's name effect by opinion of the beer, but I think it's a poor decision to have your name remind your costumers that they might be drinking too much.

Of course, you're assuming the bad habit being referenced is drinking. What if from their perspective the bad habit is brewing. There's a long series of comments/jokes about people giving up things to go into brewing. Bauhaus has played with the joke of their head brewer living at the brewery.

So I don't see any issues with Bad Habit Brewing, but I suppose you're just yet another new customer making up your own connotations.

Just a quick update. First on a "known" plan, the other an operational brewery that even slipped-past the Brewers Association ("Yo! Uncle Charlie! Your people are slackin'!") and @islay.

No social media or web presence. Plan is for a taproom which will sell pints and growlers:

Riverside on the Root -- Lanesboro, MN
They have been brewing for close to a year. According to their Facebook page, they have a new beer out, which means two ales plus one stout... and also growler sales!

The fact that there are two such plans so near to one another comes as no surprise to anyone who has ever visited the rolling hills adjoining the Root River valley in which Lanesboro was settled. In fact, the town was featured not long ago in a regional guide -- perhaps a couple of taprooms are in order for these other picturesque, Minnesota towns?

Meanwhile, I learned of *four* new plans just this morning, so "stay thirsty, my friends!"

The 6-18-15 Minnesota BeerCast podcast contained a "Future MN Breweries Panel" discussion from the St. Paul Summer Beer Fest on 6-6-15. The panel featured representatives of OMNI in Maple Grove, Roets Jordan in Jordan, and Able Seedhouse in Minneapolis. According to the panelists, the projected launch dates for each are:

OMNI: "Shooting for late August / early September." Apply my "double the time" rule of thumb, and that means late November.

Roets Jordan: "I'd love to be open before Labor Day." My projection: Early December.

Able Seedhouse: Taproom opening "late September / early October." My projection: Late January 2016.

Bad Weather posted pictures of them receiving at least some of their brewing equipment this afternoon. From the pictures it looked like fermentors, but it could be the whole kit and kaboodle. Fingers crossed. I might walk over in a bit and check it out. Also on their FB page today was pictures of their taproom. Looking really nice.

It doesn't matter what the bad habit is the phrase 'bad habit' has negative connotations.

Also, please refrain from attacking me personally.

They've been brewing for a year and no one (at least around this degenerate corner of the internets) has caught wind of it? A testament to just how fast this whole scene is growing.

Maybe they can capitalize on some of the traffic going down Hwy 52 down to Toppling Goliath. Fountain is small, like ~400 souls in total with little population in the surrounding area to draw from.

That's a good idea for those of you folks who still do the whole beercation and day trip thing. Fountain is a such a small town. It's pretty much just one antique shop surrounded by rolling hills and pastures.

Lanesboro is a really nice town, though, and I know that they aren't all thirsty for beer when Scenic Valley Winery has such good fruit wines.

His last sentence seems like it was passive-aggressive shot at me. I simply tried to set the parameter that if the conversation were to continue that he stop doing it. I think that was reasonable.

With that said, this is an internet forum, and it wouldn't have been the first time sarcasm/joking language was misinterpreted. Whatever it was I hold no malice. Now let's get back to the new breweries we can't keep track of.

So that final sentence was meant to reflect the original sentiment expressed in the original post.
