    Deduction:

Concentrate was used (and not well), but not stated.

LMAO! Some people are really good at tasting beers I guess... he must know more than the brewers at Schells.

Lighten up Francis. So he made a boo-boo. He wouldn't be the first, or the last, person to taste something that wasn't in a beer.

It's the fact that he posted false information about the beer. That isn't cool in my book. Check your facts first. Most of my reviews probably suck but I don't lie about the beers and what they are or aren't made with.

Well, this is still an amateur website where even some professionals make mistakes once in a while.

    Nobody's perfect -- right?

I didn't call him out to have him be ripped on, as I appreciate the reviews. I would hope that he fixes the incorrect information though and is a little more careful calling out something similar as fact going forward.

Yeah, I get that. I make mistakes all the time. However, I would say it tastes like concentrate was used rather than "Concentrate was used". This is stating that he knows something other people don't know. It just comes off the wrong way. Oh well, maybe I was out of line... If I was, my bad.

As I understand it, there was an allotment made available to participating Cub Foods locations with attached "package stores."

Check your local branch of "Cub Liquor" for this here online listing:

No Boo-boo. I think it is fairly easy to ascertain that concentrate was used, as I discussed. So I reviewed it as such. I appreciate when breweries are straight-forward when it is used:

@unterhopft is pretty straightforward about it not being used

"Yes, we used 5,500 pounds of peaches, no syrup or concentrate, which ended up being about 4 pounds of peaches per gallon."

Which I guess brings us back to @mothman's post

Unless I'm mistaken, @mnbrewery is a brewer with a professional pedigree. But I suppose that it's a refreshing change of pace to see people busting each other's chops around here based on one another's sensory impressions. :astonished:

If true, that's pretty shitty of him to call out another brewery for something they didn't do without doing any research into the matter.

It's one thing to say, "It tastes like they used peach syrup or concentrate due to the blast of peach aroma and flavor."

It's quite another to say they are lying and used peach syrup or concentrate despite the breweries insistence to the contrary.

Shrug. Mistakes are made all the time (even by professionals at all levels) and the guy thought that he tasted extract, puree, or some other form of peach* concentrate. His sensory impressions are as valid as anyone else's on this site.

Think of it this way: Do you do your due diligence when researching every restaurant you dine at before you in fact make reservations to dine? Moreover, do you interview the head chef before you order off the menu in order to ensure that he or she uses top-grade ingredients of which you personally approve? That's what we're getting at.

When it comes to cracking open a chilled shelf beer and cracking-open your vintage 1995 BJCP scoresheet, not all of us will take to Twitter to see whether Jace or any other brewer has added what we think they have added to a beer, all so that we don't screw-up our quick review.

*I even tasted apricot. Maybe there was another flavoring added? Besides: Finding 5,500 pounds of fresh peaches in the middle of winter is a tough trick for any brewery to pull-off.

    The point remains, though:

Criticism and accusation are two very different things.

According to the cardboard tag on the bottle, Schell's "aged it for nearly a year in our original 1936 cypress wood lagering tanks before 5,500 pounds of peaches were added for a four month, tertiary fermentation." I think it first appeared in March at the Northern Lights fest and no telling how long it had been off the peaches by then. But more likely late summer or early fall when it went on the peaches.

I thought he said he was a GIS mapmaker:
I guess he could somehow do both, but seems like a strange mix of professions.

A strange mix, perhaps. But you might be appalled at what I do for a living. :sunglasses:

Edit to note: I love me some pulpy-peach goodness in a refreshing and bracingly-SOUR and strong beer. It paired well with a small batch bourbon -- especially on a 90 degree evening.

This has suddenly become PA (Peach Advocate). The brewer said they used real peaches, someone drinking it knows better though.
