After reading this thread I threw up an iso degarde and only had one responder. I was willing to try anything, are you guys hoarding it up there?
Kidding, I feel like unless it is a super .rar beer no one wants to look at the iso. I feel like people are only looking for the beer of the minute. If it wasn't a limited release they don't seem to care about it. That being said, I did finalize a trade and can't wait to get my hands on some.

I made a De Garde run this weekend and I planned on getting 4 of each bottle that had a six bottle limit but switched to max out on Peach and Cherry Raz Bu. I just cracked Saison Cinquieme and WOW! I wish I stuck to the original plan. I only grabbed two of them, and I'm not going back. I have had Bu Weisse and it's good...not great. I didn't have time to sample anything.

Anyhow some beers get that hype and don't lose it. It's just the way it goes.

I didn't need a bu, and I have no idea what any degarde trades for so I was open to anything.

I'm in Rockland county. I'd have some fun stuff for any tasting.

So I think Jester King has a similar issue. If it doesn't come in 500ml bottles, no one cares. Some of my favorite JK beers have been in 750s, but because they're more subtle, typically larger bottle counts and with less/no fruit, they don't garner as much interest.

So long as Petit Azacca and Saison Quintieme or Hose or whatever is available without a bottle limit for weeks at a time, they aren't going to see the same interest as the super fruity over-the-top Bu's. Subtlety and complexity isn't rewarded quite like extreme flavors are. @Kurmaraja is right that in bottle shares in which 10 people get 2oz each of a bottle, the most extreme and obvious flavor is going to be the one most remembered than those 4 different saisons that all kind of blended together.

That said, if the only De Garde beers with any trade value are the Bu series, I'll happily take all of the "The" series off y'all's hands. Which reminds me, I need some Duo.

A bit off topic, but this is a de Garde trading thread so...

Are there shelf beers that you could more or less expect to find there on a given Saturday? I'd love to send my buddy in Portland a 12 bottle shipper and just ask him to fill it up with whatever from de Garde, but I don't know if that's feasible. He's not really into beer, so I'm not going to ask him to deal with a special release or anything, just send me the basics off the shelf if there is such a thing.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Watch their facebook and there's usually a weekly post with what's for sale and what the limits are. If they have Hose or Petit variants available, you should generally have no problem filling a 12 shipper.

You can get Bu Weisse and Petit Desay at Belmont Station. It's like 10 minutes from Hair Of The Dog. De Garde is 75-90 minutes through the forest from Portland one way. You may have to make it worth your friend's while to go to De Garde. They generally have had something for sale. I didn't go for a specific beer.

Seriously, I have a hard time understanding how the "The" series hasn't gained a fraction of the Bu hype. If we're strictly talking about trade value and buzzwords here, you'd think terms like "lambic inspired" and "blend of 3 years" would perk more ears. After tasting The Duo I immediately regretted the first one I traded and decided to keep my last to drink as well.

I think Nectarine Premiere is starting to break people's perceptions and open their minds a bit more though.

$7 Hoses, $9 Bu, $10 Imperial Bu, $14 Wilds - for the most part, there have been exceptions.

@TheBrewBrotha this is mapthomas from IG. If you're down to go to their next quarterly party or one in 2016 let me know. We can make it a #brothasandbeer road trip.

The bottle share comment is an interesting one and strikes at something that's been festering with me for a time. On one hand, I really like big bottle shares because I get to try a lot of great beer that I otherwise likely wouldn't get to try. On the other hand, I find myself drinking small pours, often too rapidly as bottles are being opened quickly, all while my palate gets shot pretty quickly. I often wonder if I truly get to appreciate much of the beer I'm drinking.

The obvious answer is "if you don't like them, don't do them," I get that. But I do wonder if Kurmaraja has a point in the idea that the proliferation (if such a thing exists) of large bottle shares runs the risk of undervaluing more subtle beers that need to be enjoyed more slowly, in larger quantities.

I suppose its a risk we can all live with (I mean, when you classify "not appreciating a great beer fully" as a "risk" you've lost the meaning of "risk), but its an interesting point nonetheless.
