Allagash's Spontaneously Fermented beer. I have a relative who lives right near the brewery in Maine and said he'd grab me a bottle on release day and send it to me. I, however, didn't want to impose and said it was fine. Definitely regret that. Now that the word is out about these beers, they're gone within an hour when they release some.

You reminded me of a sad story.

I was browsing around at a liquor store with a huge craft beer selection, and this little old lady is shuffling up and down the aisles. She's about 4' tall, thin, gray, bent over, she's got to be pushing a hundred, and she's all by herself.

Anyway, as I said, she's shuffling up and down the aisles, and of course I'm wondering why she's there. Now I don't put it past the extremely elderly to be into craft beer, but she did seem very confused. I figured I have a really good grasp on my area's distro, maybe I can help her out. So I go up to her and ask if I can help her find anything, and she says, "Oh yes, thank you. I'm looking for some Tequiza. My son is coming home, and it's his favorite beer."

I had to break the news to her that her son's favorite beer isn't made anymore. My heart dropped to see her sad, lonely face fill with confusion and disappointment, but she defiantly muddled off, and I could tell that part of her didn't fully believe me as she continued to search the aisles.

My mind was left to contemplate all the reasons why her son would not have seen his elderly mother since the heyday of Tequiza...

A friend shared a bottle of Bardstown with me a few months ago and it was indeed delicious. I'd definitely pay a good sum of money to have more of that beer, but 5 year old bbal barleywines aren't easy to come by.

Yeah, Samuel Smith's Yorkshire Stingo showed up on the shelves of one of my local liquor stores last year. Saw it sitting there, made a note and thought "Oh well, I'll get to it later." Kept putting it off, and then all of a sudden it wasn't on the shelves any more and I have to sit and wait to see if it'll ever come back.

    Sigh.

It's a yearly release so you should see it again.

Me too! I managed to get my hands on some, and then everyone started going crazy for the stuff.

10 years ago they were just sitting around at good beer stores, any day of the week you could just drive over and buy one. Then they disappeared:slight_frown:

I used to be able to walk into one of my local stores and they had tons. From Classic Geueze to Lou Pepe, to St. Lamvinus. Now, we're lucky to see anything here.

2010 Parabola! It was $30.00 at that particular store tho. The other store ran out and was selling them at a reasonable $15.99!

Same here, one local store used to have cases of it on the floor below the shelves that were full of a nice variety.

I wish I would have bought more Ruthless Rye when it was out. It was everywhere, and now I can't find it anywhere.

Just buy Hop Rod Rye it is better anyways, though Ruthless was a true "bargain beer".

A couple times I can recall. Last year Founders Blushing Monk (wasn't really into fruit beers at the time) and a couple years ago I saw three bottles of 2010 Surly Darkness at a store with no limit and only bought one.

To my knowledge, only one store near me got BCBVS when it came out. I figured it would be made again with a bit wider distribution, so I bought two bottles and left four on the shelf. I was wrong, and that was a bad call.

I regret not buying up all of the Williamsburg Alewerks Rapadou Porter I could find when it came out - instead, I only bought two bottles. To this day, it's one of the best beers I've ever had and they've only made it once.

The second is BCBS Vanilla. A friend of mine told me to go to the store, and that they just had it on the shelves and I was like "Pfffft... whatever". I f'd that one up royal.

It was insanely cold with a bitter beard-biting wind that day,and I thought to myself...there ain't NO WAY I'm standing outside for hours for two bottles of expensive beer! As it turns out, Omar felt sorry for the poor (okay, smart and devoted) souls that braved the below-zero wind chills. Kind of like the Willy Wonka of the tundra, letting the kids into his factory to marvel at the workings and sample his everlasting hop-stoppers (Furious)

    Shoulda'...coulda'...din't.

D-Day (Darkness Day) commeth! This Saturday, December 15th. Since people have promised insanity, we present the following ground rules.
Surly will open the gates to the brewery at 9:00 A.M. At that point we will start checking IDs. Individuals can not “hold” places in line for others, and we will not save bottles for people. 480 bottles will be available, thus after 240 people have qued up, will we let people know that we are sold out.

In late 2009, when I was just barely getting interested in craft beer, I went to dinner at Jolly Pumpkin and the server told me about the Lambicus Dexterius release the next day. I decided not to go because it was more money than I wanted to spend (I can't remember, something like $18 a bottle). I wish I had picked some up...

Around the same time I also skipped over a bunch of hugely marked-up Cantillon, but I'm not kicking myself too much over that.
