i have often stopped at K&G for an easy 6 pack. Great that a convenience store has good craft selection. Lately I've noticed that their beer is always past the best by date. In fact, I saw a New Belgium Rampant tonight 6 months past the best by date. Do they buy old beer or just turn it over really slowly?
I would guess they turn it over really slowly. IBS is kind of shifty from what I have seen, but even they wouldn't sell out of date beer from their warehouse. I hope they don't anyway.
I am not in Iowa but I can say that out of date code beer gets sent out of distributor warehouses all the time. Thankfully, we check dates and refuses anything out of date or nearly out of date. Most places are probably not so vigilant. That being said, the issue is probably mainly them overordering/underselling.
I stay clear of gas station beer unless absolutely necessary. Prices are generally high and freshness is rare. Just plan ahead and buy at a liquor store!
A little bit-most stuff is turned over very quickly by convenience stores. I should have added that the store I got the 6 month past date beer at wasn't even open at that date, which means old beer got sent in there. That's a long time to sit in a distribution center. But thanks for the feedback.
If the same distributor is consistently sending out old beer from the same brewery (not the occasional random occurrence) then you need to contact the brewery in question
Oh, absolutely. Done that before and will do it again. I suppose I misspoke by calling it all the time, but it certainly isn't a rare site. Cheers!
