I posted something about this the other day and the best answer they gave me was that it is "optional". Personally, I find it ridiculous to pay more to verify who I am, then it would cost me to buy Fou at Cantillion for take away.

I can understand that offering International SMS support is to complicated and expensive.

In my personal opinion binding a BA account to a paypall account is at least just as serious as binding it to a mobile phone number. So to me this doesn't excuse the high fee. I will wait for other options or untill to me it becomes valueable enough to change my mind.

I am sad I'm no longer able to trade on BA. But no doubt there are other options on the www.

I absolutely have no problem with account verification, but why is it that non-resisidents from the US and Canada have to pay for it? As of instantly I can't reply to any ISO:FT offer and I can't even leave feedback for a trade I have done last week. I know it is just a 'initial rollout of account verification' and also know that 'we're working on it'. .. but in the mean time all trade possibilities have been shut down. :astonished:

Just a thought: we have digit mobile numbers as well and most likely most of us don't mind sharing it with the people from BeerAdvocate to verify our account.

I can't reply to the forum, can't even leave feedback to a trade from last week anymore ... optional? If I want to trade through this site, it isn't optional. It seems BA is forcing non-residents from the US and Canada onto other sites.

So true. I don't care much for that $10 we'd have to pay, I use this site a lot. But why do the non-US/Canadians (10-20% of the members maybe?) have to pay for the whole idea?

So all non us members need to pay for the same facilities on a free public community! We also have phone numbers to verify.

Good luck on a board with no more cantillon trades!

    Sounds like fun

Either make every member pay, or none.

    This!
With the current fee it more or less seems BA forces international members onto other sites. And I don't think that was the intention of the account verification ...

This is unfair to our international members. If the rationale for the extra cost for those folks is the messaging is expensive then make the fee the cost for the message and no more, otherwise it seems like a cash grab from only a portion of the community. This is just wrong.

I assume SMS support is only for verification and being sent once. Why not have international members pay the actual international costs? For sending an SMS from the Netherlands to the US I pay 0.51 Euro. How does 600% more expensive justify a 9.99 fee?

Our intention wasn't to make this seem like "a cash grab" (@CTFalcon), make it cost prohibitive, or turn away non-US/Canadian users. I did explain the reasoning behind the fee earlier in this thread, but some good points have been brought up since.

We are listening and actively exploring solutions.

Just an FYI once you.verify your account you have to go to the main trading page and.accept the trading rules again

Correct. As per the instructions on the main Trading page, top of the trading rules, trading update thread, and the alert that's shown when you access the trading forums.

I appreciate that you're listening to feedback. I think what ruffles my feathers so much on this topic is it does not affect all users equally. In effect there are two sets of rules for users depending on where they live, that is unfair. I know the intent is to make trading safer for all, but is the trading community better off if we scare away a portion of the users due to geography to get that security?

Verification is good, it just needs to be properly applied to all users. The current situation needs to be remedied IMO.

Update: The fee has been reduced to $0.99 USD.

Those who already verified at $9.99 will receive a full refund today and instructions to re-verify at the new fee.

Apologies for the frustration that this has caused, and thanks for your honest feedback.
