Garrison City Beerworks opened in Dover, New Hampshire in December 2014. They began canning their beer in June 2015. This "Crowler" of Citra Dry-hopped Pale Ale is pretty new to the craft beer scene. The "crowler" is attributed to Oskar Blues on the Garrison City label, which reads "Garrison City Beerworks is a craft brewery and tasting room in the heart of downtown Dover (New Hampshire, same town as 7th Settlement). We are proud to be the first in New Hampshire to offer The Crowler by Oskar Blues Brewery.

I suppose that would be my only criticism of the beer because it is in a 32 ounce non-resealable can and once I open it I will have to drink it all. I would prefer a screw top. But this was a delightful pale ale. Full of tropical, mango, and citrus notes, a smooth, bold body, and a lingering fruity bitterness.

I haven't seen it since I was a kid, myself. I've always wondered why it wasn't better known, given who's in it, and can only assume it was before it's time.

Oh, I know. I miss the old days of Wake Forest, Carolina, Duke, N.C. State, UVA, Clemson, Maryland (off to the Big Ten for money), and consequently I've lost interest in all of it.

Hmmm... maybe there wasn't a high demand for it, or there were problems obtaining the correct copyrights, or problems with the original videotapes/film ? Who knows....

The good news is, I just looked it up - Amazon is out of stock, but it looks like this place has it :

Thanks for the link. The more I think about it, the more I'd like to own it. Plus, my Mom loved it (she still mentions "the Everly Brothers' other brothers" whenever she sees a ridiculously gyrating rockstar on tv), so it'd make a good gift for her b-day in a few months. She also loves to watch Pulp Fiction while folding laundry, so she's kind of an odd bird for her age.

Good afternoon NBS crew. Happy seeing some BIF beers being presented, as well as seeing the MST3K was enjoyed by many. I knew I wasn't going to get to participate with family in town, but I got through 3 commercial breaks earlier in the day. Back when the show was actually on I watched it, and definitely recalled this flick as being one of the worst. Good choice, all, and I might watch the rest of it today at some point.

Today's [first] beer about ends the beers by Schlenkerla that I see regularly, their Fastenbier. The beer pours a deep brown with a ton of frothy head on a vigorous pour. Of course, the beer smells of smoke over top the lasting ring of foam, but there are some caramel/candy notes as well. The taste is a bit of light caramel, earthy roots, and some spicy bite along with the burnt wood smokiness. The smoke is a bit more powerful than the other tastes, but yet again overall nicely balanced. The Urbock is still my favorite, but this one is quite enjoyable. Like the bite and smokiness, and the bite of spice, but the feel was just a tad flat despite the sustained head.

I must admit I don't know the "proper glassware" for this beer, so went with a basic tulip. Also chose this angle, to say that this would've the view if I had taken it a couple days earlier:

Rain weekend the ground, add wind, and a likely less-than-healthy tree uproots and leans against another tree. I figured out bedroom window was potentially in danger, but unless more winds came, we'd be able to get someone to bring the tree down safely.

FF>> to 3am, and I hear a *crack*, rustling, and thud!! The GF figured the cats knocked something over, but it was obvious to me what had happened. Luckily no windows broken, as the tree angled right to the neighbor's porch. Also lucky no (obvious) damage to their house, but the topmost branches likely stormed their abode when they opened the door. Almost perfect angle of fall.

Very, very late start for me today, but I'm nursing a hell of a hangover. I finally decided to take one for the team, though, cracked this baby open, and nursed it from the comfort of a warm bath.

3 Floyds Alpha King APA, beer #2 from @BigRedDog 's BIF box.

It's a nicely balanced APA, with a focus on grainy, biscuity caramel malt and pine and citrus hops. A slight kiss of sweetness on the back half keeps it interesting, and a dry finish gets you ready for more.

My God, @WesMantooth has sent me into near panic with his generosity. Beers are everywhere and my son and I barely made a dent. I get it, I do love Ohio beers, but the Jack's Abbey BBL Baltic Porter is special.

I feel your pain. I have spent the last 2 months building a back yard fence because of trees and storms. We had some tree branches break off from 90 MPH winds and crash into our house, but luckily only minor gutter damage which has been replaced. Cheers.

Mannnn. Fastenbier's been a want since I discovered it available to us here in the states. I'm hoping to find some in NYC. I love Schlenkerla's beers and as far as glassware, I like to pour them into a seidel (the liter mugs).

Well, not only is it New Beer Sunday and the NBS BIF, but the beer @cavedave brought me is apparently new to many on BA considering it only has 4 ratings (one of which is my review... the world needs more thoughtful reviews, jeez! But I digress).

It's Rushing Duck's Duck, Duck, Whale straight from a growler. Man this is a delicious beer. Could Rushing Duck be so prescient as to foresee the masses clamoring to catch this "whale" thus explaining how it's named?

    look: 5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

Another growler that arrived at my house courtesy of cavedave and via the New Beer Sunday Beer It Forward.

Poured from the growler into an oversized snifter.

Magnificent foamy head, dark-khaki in color forms above a pitch-black, imperial stout-looking body. Lace is plentiful and leaves streaks and islets above the liquid. 5

I like that smell. Lots of dark chocolate and plums and prunes. Imperial stout like here as well as far as the roasty, chocolatey factor, but there's clearly a strong, sweet floral aroma of lilies that suggests some Belgian character. Cherry aromas are a nice complement to the chocolate. It's a cordial of sorts. 4.5

The nose set the tongue up well. Great consistency from one to the other. Still getting a delicious blend of dark chocolate, cherry, plum and floral pepperiness. Interestingly there's something about the blend of flavors and spices that reminds me a bit of a Dr. Pepper or root beer or perhaps a hybrid of the two. 4.25

It's got plenty of floral feel - bubbliness, spice and a lively mid-palate. The body is somewhere between light and medium which along with the expressive carbonation reminds me a bit of soda. I'd perhaps care for a bit more body given the rich chocolatey malt qualities, but otherwise this just drinks excellently. 4

What a pleasant treat of a beer. I don't know if cavedave was studying my tastes before sending or if he's simply a mind-reader but I love the Belgian Dark Strong Ales and this fits right in with others I've loved. Delicious.

    Number two!

Top Cutter from Bale Breaker Brewing

Crystal clear and golden with a nice thick, frothy white head that leaves behind a great bit of lacing.

Biggest note on the nose is an overwhelming earthiness that's almost meaty until a bit of pine pops through.

Taste immediately brings about a peat characteristic that finishes with green olive (it's a theme for me today! ) and a tiny amount of heat on the back of the throat.

Mouthfeel is slick but not overly oily with a thoroughly bitter exit.

This one is not for amateurs, this I can say with great certainty! But it is rewarding in the fact that it presents a very unique experience in an IPA.

    First nbs poster here.
Had the wife pick me up some beer..she always gets something I wouldn't buy myself so Iike that!
She grabed Anderson valleys huge arker bourbon barrel aged imperial stout.
Certainly not my style AT ALL....but giving it a fair chance, I love trying new beer regardless.
For me its just to much bourbon up front ..on the back end the roasted malt/coffee vanilla is rather nice tho.
At 13.5% it will certainly get the job done! Not sure on date no code or anything on bottle but with the heavy bourbon I assume it's fairly fresh.
None the less happy Sunday everyone!

Back with my first beer of the day, with a suddenly heavy heart and a toast. I just found out one of my all-time favorite musicians died earlier today (hence the avatar change). Chris Squire was only recently diagnosed with a form of leukemia, and while his odds weren't great, I'd hoped he'd be around a little while, but it went to work pretty quickly. I'm glad I got to see him live at the Gorge years ago, but had hoped to see him again at least once more. Amazing bassist.

But I've also a joyous heart, and am lifting this glass also to properly honor the latest addition to my brother's family, and to the fact that I am an uncle for the second time, so here's to you, Mallory Catherine!

As might have been subtly mentioned today, we recently had the 2nd official NBS BIF, dually organized by @beertunes and @LehighAce06. I was lucky enough to get the latter BA as my sender, and while he sent me a bunch of mostly Michigan beers that he had access to and I didn't and were on my wants list, he also threw in a few PA beers that I had never heard of. Because a saison sounded like a great beer on this hot New Beer Sunday, and to honor him with something pretty local to him, here's one of those PA beers I'd never heard of:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/27273/165031/?ba=woemad

Awesome! Possibly the most "tropical fruity" saison I've ever had, but matched up with a very complimentary sharp dryness, especially at the latter end of the taste to balance things out.

Hey @LehighAce06, I think we can give you a pass. You don't HAVE to open a big one like that. You could always post it later (especially for a cellarable one like Bois Fume). We'd understand if you popped it on NBS 560, or whenever.
