You actually make my point. I didn 't quote all, but you say it is to do things such as create hype, inflate prices, and pad their pockets, and you characterize that as evil. Personally I don't believe it is evil, it is business, and it is one reason businesses, including breweries, are in business. I pointed out that these collab's are more about sales, and I feel if I was a brewer I would do it too, gotta make money in business or you are an ex-business. It also is true that I've yet to have a beer that I thought disproves the idea that collab.'s with people with whom you rarely brew also rarely makes an exceptional beer.

If these points were lost in the sauce let me make them now.

I did not quite say that, I said others seem to be of that opinion. I fully realize that the breweries are businesses and businesses need to make money but I do not believe a collaboration is nothing more than a method to make money, at least not any more than any other beer they brew. While the project may provide hype I do not believe that is the intention. I am also not inclined to believe they are just trying to pad their pockets either. If the raw materials used is outside their norm or the process is more involved the cost may be higher while profit margin remains unchanged. People make a lot of assumptions when it comes to collabs, I am not sure much is based on anything other that personal feelings as opposed to facts.

Jolly Pumpkin and Jester King. Artisan Breweries that use a lot of barrel aging and farmhouse techniques. A match made in heaven.

    Call it a Pumpkin King.

Also... neither brewery share the same area (Can't get Jester King in MI... can't get Jolly Pumpkin in TX), so it would be a good chance for others to see their work.

Founders and Dogfish Head, because they account for some of the very best and most interesting/creative beers.

Second choice: Stone and AleSmith, because they make dependably awesome bombers.

Goose Island and Jolly Pumpkin, not only do Laffler and Jeffries look similar but they are masters of separate styles barrel aging.

    Goose island and lost abbey
Two of the best at barrel aging and goose island can teach LA how to carbonate properly.
imagine blend of bourbon county and angels share. Or better yet, if they swapped barrels when each beer was done

My assumption was that they do it to make money, like you say, as every other beer they make, and use what they have and can to sell it, like every other beer they make. Also that collab.'s might be unlikely by nature to create masterpieces. I haven't tried any showstoppers from collab.'s yet.

    Hope that changes.

I think that people assume that two really great breweries going in on a collab means that their reputations/expectations should be added.
I.E. if brewery A has an average rating of 4.2/5 and brewery B has an average of 4.6/5, that means that their collab beer should be a 8.8/5.

Having said that, I think that an experimental collab between Short's and Dogfish Head would make for an interesting beer. Shortfish Head?
