I am heading to Chicago to visit friends for the 4th. I will be ataying in the Wicker Park area and have access to a car. Any great bottle shops I should hit up? How is the Half Acre tasting room? Does Pipeworks even have one? Just looking for advice on where to have a few good beers and where to pick some up to bring home. Thanks in advance.

Chicago is over in the Great Lakes forums, you'll get lots more help there!

West Lakeview Liquors for a good craft selection, Binny's is good too.

Pipeworks doesn't have a tasting room. You CAN find what they have at Binny's or W. Lakeview.

Half Acre sucked when I went, even though I love their beers - they weren't offering anything I couldn't find on the shelves at my local Binny's when I went...which I thought was pretty lame.

You might want to hit up Revolution Brewing, they had stuff at their taproom that's not readily available on shelves...

Bangers & Lace is a good bar to go to in Wicker Park that serves a multitude of craft beers that are harder to find elsewhere.

    Have fun!

Go to Piece. Eat their pizza and drink their beer.

Also Links is right there too and usually have some good beers on tap but it changes daily.

the beer temple is good place or binnys to buy beer
bad apple good bar across street from half acre
begyle brewing is a 5 min walk from bad apple/half acre
Fountainhead is a 2 min drive from bad apple
    hopleaf
    local option
    map room
    links taproom
i would recommend hitting either revolution brewery or tap room

I will be in Chicago over the 4th as well. Most of my time is already booked up - but I will at least stop at Binny's to pick up some bottles. Any recommendations for things to look for that are currently on the shelves in Chicago? My preference is IPA. Does Binny's usually have a decent selection of Half Acre, Pipeworks, Revolution, etc?

I've seen Citra Hero from Revolution popping up on beermenus, but haven't come across it yet, myself. It's one of my favorite from the 'Hero' series. From Pipeworks, I'd looking for Mandarina or Ninja Vs Unicorn. Half Acre's Vallejo is around and a worthy brew.

Binny's in AH was devoid of all of these beers today :-/ I'm so glad I stocked up on Vallejo before it was gone. I bought three 4-packs...sucks that it wasn't on the shelves long (I think it's seasonal like Senita or whatever it's called now.)

If you can't find it at binny's, it's probably not worth drinking.

If your willing to make a short trip up north there are at least 3 good stores that have plenty of Pipeworks, HA, Revolution in stock.
