Brussels and hate from the Belgians

I stayed in Brussels the last couple of days in a really nice and good hotel near Cantillon (Be Manos). After all those stories about the bad neighbourhood and the dirty streets, I got curious and paid special attention to those aspects. I call bullshit.

The neighbourhood around Cantillon is friendly and safe, lost of people around who are nice and the streets were pretty clean overall (besides some garbage here and there). The centre of Brussels is crowded, but it's still a nice place to be. I didn't feel unsafe or uncomfortable anywhere in the places I have been, so don't let that be a reason to hold you back from visiting this city.

 

I've spent some time in Brussels, this time coming from Luxembourg City. Maybe this is an interesting comparison. Luxembourg is supremely clean and quite beautiful. Luxembourg is, though, the second richest country, apparently. One thing that I noticed is that there seems to be a richer culture of different nationalities living in Brussels. What this meant was more interesting shops and food much cheaper than most of the things in Luxembourg. Luxembourg felt quite a bit more tourist-catered. The tourism in Brussels is centered on historical buildings/statues/food/etc. for the most part. In Luxembourg the tourism seemed to be centered on fancy shops. This is of course just a general and rather shallow statement about both cities. Without venturing too far outside of the centers of each city, I probably shouldn't judge.

 

part of me thinks that some posters saw a lot of people with darker skin colour and freaked out.

yes, the area around Cantillon is more Muslim. big deal. nice kebap stores there.

was in brussels a week ago. probably one of my better visits. walk on the east side of the city/ring and explore the gardens and architecture. the city was ALIVE friday night. so much going on.
