Talk about compounding the issue. I work in a fancy pants wine store (with a killer discount to boot) and have a fridge full of beer, a Koldfront cooler full of wine and a bunch of nice whiskey. Not quitting anytime soon.

    Thems the breaks. *shrug*

A classic drunk night, fortunately, it sounds like you didn't drink anything that trades 6:1, after you've had six other great beers. No more drinking or decision-making can be marked after you get the "not sure if you should drink this feeling".

After you became drunk, what did you eat? I must know!

My brother, you're livin' the dream. Honestly, your situation reminds me of mine quite a bit.
Hell, I guess I must be livin' the dream...:-)

Start light and work up to strong. After a few if you if you are at home or if someone else is driving and still need a buzz switch to bourbon.

Hahaha by the sounds of it you're as excited to break the fast as I am. Yeah actually this is great advice and is certainly something Im going to take into consideration! I'm going to rethink my strategy, and without any hesitation Im now fantasizing about a pivo pils :flushed:

Much appreciated, brother. I throw back this 4th or 5th SN Torpedo in your honor. After which, I will burn one down and raise another in honor of drinking more for less. Prost.

Beer goggles...a few beers can make ugly girls cute, same as crappy beers delicious.

After 6 or 7 beers, I never find myself complaining....about much of anything

Remember that over here 12 ounces isn't a "beer" , it's some liquid at the bottom of a glass.5.4% is strong enough when treating beer as beer rather than surrogate wine

This is pretty common knowledge in my opinion. The more you get drunk, the more your tastebuds fade. I don't know everything and maybe some people have super palates.

No, but I can see how you can. I'm usually more frustrated simply because I don't have it to enjoy the next day...lol..., but the frustration is not because I didn't properly enjoy it or because I couldn't remember the experience. That said, I have a gargantuan tolerance. I am not saying that as a braggart, but I can consume quite a bit and not lose the faculties required to properly enjoy a beer. I certainly see how it would be possible...When I do reach a certain state of inebriation, I usually really slow down or stop drinking anyway...I really don't enjoy hangovers anymore...It has to take a real raging atmosphere for me to be ridiculously hammered nowadays...

Seems to me you've sorted several things out here nicely and pretty much already had many of the answers in hand. To avoid the palate fatigue effects there's the ordering of beers to help reduce those effects and the addition of more time between beers and the use of palate cleansers/changers (which can be a different style of beer :-)) to help at least partly reset the senses of taste and smell. The only way to avoid the mind numbing effects of alcohol on your attention to complexities and on remembering of subtleties and other things the next day is to either switch at some point to beers where it doesn't matter to you or reduce alcohol consumption either by focusing on lower ABV or by having fewer beers.

Honestly, if I am fairly drunk, I prefer not to try something epic, new, or anticapted. It's not even just about palates fading, I just remember less when I am drunk. I had my last can of Heady Topper once about 5 beers deep and that was a huge regret of mine. the things we do when we are drunk lol

As we speak I discovered Lakewood Brewing Company's "The Temptress" Milk Stout. Did I really need to start the 4th one just now. Probably not.

I don't find it to be a drunk vs sober thing, I find it to be a hops thing. Some beers have such a strong hop flavor that it scorches my palate after one or two beers and regardless of what I eat or drink after that beer it all just tastes like hops. I think its just an IPA/DIPA thing.

Nothing worse than waking up the morning after the night before and seeing that open and empty bottle of something special that you have no remembrance of opening. A total "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" moment.

this is where true session beers come in. not the ones listed as session but are like 5.5% or whatever. u can maintain most of ur sobriety and continue to pick apart the flavor profile of a beer and even continue to find nuances u didnt notice at first, pint after pint.

    You're dead right, good summary!

Tell me about it. I've had regrets too often recently of 'I can't really remember how that tasted' or at least 'I can't remember the complexities or nuances of that beer'. No more, from now!
