First brew day complete, and I have some questions.

Thanks PortLargo. I'll see how this batch turns out, and if it's drinkable, I'll consider it a success. Before I invest in a dedicated fridge, I'll see what "po-man" temp control methods are out there. I knew I wouldn't be getting an accurate wort temp by checking the ambient, but I figured it's better than not knowing at all.

Your first beer was made with Nugget and Palisades? Respect!

    Uh, is that good?

Yes, sir. Respect is good. Nugget is spicy and Palisades brings the peaches and green. Practically no one chooses this lovely pair for their first beer. Hence, the respect.

Now, if your second beer is a 12% oaked bourbon stout without doing any research, I reserve the right to reclaim the respect.

One thing I noticed is you have no planned dry hop. If aroma is something you like, then try both hops at 1.5-2.0 oz each. Without the dry hops, there won't be much aroma.

Well, thanks! I can't take credit for the recipe, as it was off the shelf at my local homebrew store. Had no idea that combination was uncommon for newbies.

I'll eventually do some dry-hopping in future batches, but as this is my first go-round, I'm keeping things as simple as possible.

    ***UPDATE***

Sampled a bottle of this, my first attempt at homebrew, tonight and it came out excellent! American Amber Ale partial mash kit from my LHBS has been in the bottle for two weeks (plus 2 weeks in PF). It won't win any awards, but I'm really pleased with the overall appearance, aroma and flavor. Brew_Betty, you're right. I need to dry-hop next time, as this batch seriously lacked hop flavor, and could've used some help in the aroma department as well.

I know this is all elementary for you experienced homebrewers, but I was so happy to see my beer pour into a glass like real, commercial/professional beer you'd buy off the shelf. After a month of waiting and worrying (about fermentation/conditioning temperature in particular), it all turned out great!

I bottled my second batch (Pale Ale) today and hope it turns out just as good, if not better.

Thanks for everyone's support and helpful insight!
