A magnificent post. Thank you Sir, you are a BA legend. This is the perfect opportunity to tell you that the Duvel glass that I own is really yours. I purchased it for your Drinking With The Duvel #665 thread, so each and every time I do use it (which is occasional) I think of @LeperJim. I appreciate your art work, your posts, and your humor. It's an honor. Where one road ends, another begins.

Thanks kindly for saying all that! I appreciate it. And the Duvel glass is close to a perfect drinking vessel IMO and so many others. Cheers!

Happy NBS gang! My 'smart' phone got dumb on me this morning as I started to peruse the threads. A trip to the Apple Store was in order, and I'm back in business minus some photo memories. Thus my love-hate relationship with my phone and carrier continues. Unlimited data plan be damned!

Enough bitching, time to drink something new courtesy of @JNForsyth and BIF #2. Going with the Westbrook Gose on a warm sunny day. Malt beverage brewed with coriander and sea salt with an abv. of 4%. I've seen this one posted a lot on WBAYD. Let's go!

Pours a cloudy but brilliant yellow with lively white foam that quickly settles. Score 4.25

Aroma is funky and cheese like with perhaps a bit of lemon. I'm getting a hint of the coriander in the background. Score 4.0

Taste at first sip is heavy with sea salt followed by a mouth puckering citric bite. Not getting much coriander. The funky sour and citric flavor over rides the salt as you drink along. Score 4.25

Mouthfeel is puckering, a bit acidic, and very dry. Score 3.75

My two cents? This is a style I don't seek out and thus don't have much experience or anything to compare to. It was eye opening at first, but then the old taste buds settled down and went for the ride. I rather enjoyed it, but even with the low abv. I couldn't see myself drinking more than one. My final score was a 4.09 / rDev -1.7%.

    Thank you garymuchow for this
12 oz can, best before 9/25/15, poured into a pint glass

A- A clear golden amber with a four finger white head

S- Floral, piney, some citrus, some wet grass, caramel malts.

T- Piney finish, floral notes, faint wet grass, light citrus upfront, all balanced by nice sweeter malt backbone.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A nice middle of the road IPA, tasty, worth trying. I could see myself picking this up fairly often if it was local to me.

Happy 5th and yes a working day so had to get everything out of the way to enjoy this New Beer. Happy Birthday to Dave. Must be a wonderful person because July people are- my Mom would have been 74 Thursday and she was an Angel .
Hope everyone enjoyed their Independence Day. I drank many good beers yesterday. As usual all the posts on NBS have a little inspiration in their own special way love this thread. Sticking with saisons this week mainly cause I'm on a roll and by happenstance picked up a rare specimen for around here:

    Logsdon Organic Farmhouse Ales Seizoen

Beautiful golden hued color with white head leaving wonderful Queen Anne's Lacing on the glass.

Pear, tangerine, lemon, white grape, farm funk, tropical fruit, grass/hay, lavender, oak and yeast. Fine smelling brew!

Taste follows: yeasty fruitiness, clove, citrus, mango. Funky herbal bitterness with a slightly sour apple finish. The malt presence is small and the hop ever so slightly creeps in. ( I've always enjoyed fuggles....) Closing my eyes I can picture myself on a stool drinking this in a French Farmhouse.

Finely carbonated with a soft mouthfeel with a slickness. Dry and slightly Bitter.

Two weeks in a row with saisons - Keraterra Proclamation and Logsdon. A style that I am starting to enjoy more and more due to its complexity of aroma and flavors. Looking forward to trying more unique offerings in this style.
And NOVS. I would like to think there will be a reunion someday. Not quite sure. Keeping hope alive though.
Have a fantastic week and as always thanks for listening! Peace.[IMG] [IMG]

2nd NBS BIF beer today thanks to @Srkolodn !
A definite want for me as I love a good grapefruit flavor in my IPAs.
While this is a solid IPA, I got a lot of bitter grapefruit rind and none of the sweetness I wanted. If this was available in my area it would be a staple in the fridge because it's a great IPA.

Ladies And Gentlemen, likely my last NB on this S because I need to put the final touches on grilling, eat dinner and relax with the family until bedtime which despite what you may think, comes damn early!

It's Ray Ray's Pale Ale from Center of the Universe

Looks very nice with it's reasonably large head and gentle lacing. This one is closer to copper than most of the others I've had today.

Nose introduces faint resiny pine with a decent layer of maltiness rolling in from behind.

Taste is up front pine bitter but fades to thin pretty quick leaving a little tea like remnants on the tongue.

Not bad but probably makes a better grab a sixer for the beach rather than a depth beer.

Greetings BAs! We had rain for most of 4th, but today has turned out to be a very nice (albeit muggy) sunny day here in TN. My teenage kids had a fun and safe holiday, which is now my main criteria for a good holiday:astonished:.

Out of curiosity and a desire to better appreciate beer, I took up home brewing as a hobby about 6 months ago. It has been a fantastic ride and I highly recommend it to anyone with the slightest interest. The homebrewing threads here are pure gold. I spent the afternoon today brewing up a IIPA and here are a few pics:

Mashed at 149-150 - hoping for a nice dry finish.

And I used a buttload of hops (Columbus, Mosaic, Amarillo, Cascade, Chinook). It is an American IIPA, after all.

It was a great afternoon! Anyway, onto my new beer:

Since I was brewing a IIPA, I wanted to savor one post-brew. I saw this in my local shop a few days ago: Second Helping from SweetWater. This is their annual offering in which they donate all proceeds to a great local charity in ATL. If you're interested, check out thegivingkitchen.org. A really wonderful organization.

IIPA, Juniper berries, charity,...what's not to like!

Look: Beautiful burnt orange hue with a bright white fluffy head that lingered. A touch of haziness.
Aroma: Really surprising. Some orange and citrus followed by muted juniper (which I expected) but then a big malt sweetness with caramel and some toffee. I expected more of the former and less of the latter, I guess.
Taste: A nice up front orange flavor with a hint of juniper. Not like a G&T, for which I'm grateful. The finish is big on the malt, though, with caramel and some bread, followed by a pleasant clean bitter finish. The alcohol is nicely masked, but at 7.4 ABV it's expected.
Feel: Dry to style, really nice.
Overall: Great for the occasion. I was craving a IIPA and it delivered, but nothing special. Nice Juniper notes, but a bit too sweet for me. I'm glad I bought it: quality brew and for a great cause. I will never turn down a SweetWater.

    Cheers!

Howdy NBS-ers! A bit later than I'd hoped but I've finally got something for ya! My new brew today is Flying Dog Brewhouse Rarities Earl Grey Black Wheat. Not getting much info from the label or website, so I shall wing it:

    Firstly, some BA stuff:
    A: 4 S: 3.5 T: 4 M: 4 O: 3.75 BA says: 3.83

12oz bottle into a weizen glass.

A: Nice! Nearly opaque black with amber/brown hues around the edges with the proper lighting. 3/4" tan head that recedes slowly. Lacing is very impressive for the style.

S: I just don't get the tea here. Chocolate, vanilla & nuttiness really jump out at me. Although really, it's not a very aromatic brew. Maybe a hint of fruitiness, although it's pretty ambiguous.

T: There's the tea! It's very mild, but detectable. Along with cocoa, vanilla, coffee & hints of berries. I get a slight raspberry twinge toward the back-end of the mid-palate, which is kinda cool. The finish has a pleasant hop-kick just to wake you up.

M: Very thick, malty richness. It has a bit of a velvety, creamy quality that I don't typically associate with Dunkelweiss. Basically, this brew has the mouthfeel of a Guinness draught. Not a bad thing.

O: For what it actually does, I'll give this brew some credit. It's truly unique, but miles away from it's proposed 'style'. I'm surprised by the prominent cocoa notes & general lack of Earl Grey qualities. If a Guinness & an Altbier had a kid, this would be it.

Bottom line: I don't love it.
Caveats: This was the April FDBR release, so I don't want to judge it too harshly. I'd like to think that were it fresh, this brew might pack a little more Earl Grey punch. The overall malty creaminess is appealing, but ultimately one-note.

    Anywhoo....
Happy to be home, happy to be back to consuming some tasty brews & happy to have contributed to the hallowed institution that is NBS!

Good beers & good cheers, all!

Update: Second NBS pour for Weyerbacher's 20th Anniversary Ale ~ Belgian Style Dark Ale

    I love this beer!

I will buy more tomorrow. However, as it warms it gets REALLY SWEET and complex
and now throw in some cherries...and I happen love cherries and sweet! But I would
not say this is reminiscent of SB Abt 12.

I was excited and premature with that comment earlier.

And thanks for the nice welcome to NBS.
    You're an awesome group!!

    NBS!!!
I hope you are all enjoying your holiday weekend! I just got back to Cleveland from a trip to visit my folks in Columbus. Of course that prompted a trip to grab a few Columbus beers not distributed to Cleveland.
I believe this operation just started canning their beers. Nice to finally try them. One of the comments for this beer said "better than Bodhi". I'm not sure I agree though it certainly is a mighty fine DIPA. Lots of citrus and tropical fruit, though a touch sweet. Between Columbus Brewing Co, a few of the newer breweries and now the BrewDog project, I can honestly see Columbus becoming a destination city.
While the South of Eleven was chilling, I actually had a second (first?) new beer today. A coworker was in Chicago last weekend and stopped by FFF. I think she said this was the only six-pack they had available, go figure it is one of the only 12oz FFF beers I haven't had. It's a nice pale ale though not my favorite in their lineup and as others mention being above 5% I'm not sure I'd call it a 'session' beer but I'm glad I have five more.

    Cheers!
