New setup in the new home, sans a 6 pack of 2013 Expedition Stout that I just happened to stumble upon at a local liquor store.

Finally decided to clean up my act. Moving into a new(er) home and have repurposed the old coal bin for a cellar. Removed the 275gal oil tank, took down a wall, power washed the coal dust from the other walls, painted it, and set up some shelves.

For ref, here's the old cellar in the old (1894) house

And then (1909) cellar (nothing is organized yet, and still have about 13 cases back at the old place to move yet)

    Thanks

And a word of caution - those shelves are 3/8 particle board, and while I knew they weren't strong enough for long term storage, I had no idea who bad they really were. I went back down there last night and all of the shelves were heavily bowed toward the center. Bottles were visibly leaning to the middle. Nothing had collapsed but it looked like it might at any time.

I'd already planned to replace them with something stronger, but I didn't realize I would need to do it immediately. Having the lumberyard cut some 5/8 CDX for me today (because they have a panel saw and I don't). That, with a hardwood spine should be more than enough to carry the weight.

So if you buy box store shelves (these are from Menards), replace the wood from the start.

Thinking of buying an old fridge to "cellar" my beers, compared to tons of boxes stored in my closet. In New Mexico the temps can change somewhat dramatically from night to day, although In my dark closet temps are probably a little more stable. Any one have any recommendations as to weather cellaring in a fridge is beneficial compared to in a closet???

Sorry no pics to drool over

Cellaring in a temp controlled fridge is definitely better than cellaring in a closet long term. The lower temp will slow aging and your beers should age more gracefully. Plus you can open the door and stair at your collection when you're having a rough day.
