Supposedly (according to a Boston newspaper story at the time, IIRC) Jim Koch & Ball considered a similar lid for his can design but rejected it for that very reason. When Crown (can mfg.) and Sly Fox came out with the 360 design it did seem like they didn't know or consider that fact.

I don't recall the exact chronology but "pop top" litter was a real thing in some public spaces (immortalized in song even) and, apparently, the laws were a reason for the eventual design of the "stay on" ring mechanism that exists today - as well as a few failed styles, like Coors "button" top lids that suffered from the fact that the pressure necessary to open them was much different at sea level that at Golden CO's altitude.

Pretty sure NJ (and probably other states that ban the 360 design?) gets SF Helles with standard lids.

Weltenburger Kloster Barock-Hell, good example of a Helles, would be perfect for Summer

Which is odd, because regular ol' bottles have a lid that completely removes from the bottle... and from what I've seen most of the litter that comes from those is the bottles themselves (often broken into many pieces), not the caps. And I don't think I've ever heard of any state banning glass beer bottles... some specific locations being cans-only to avoid the risk of broken glass, yeah, but never a state-wide ban on bottles.

So, you are expecting politicians & bureaucrats to be consistent!?!

How about parks which permit horses and they have regulations that you must pick up after your dog but there is zero mention about the horse riders pick up after their horses!?!:grimacing:

    Cheers!

The powers that be won't be banning capped bottles since they been in use since before that started banning things.

Not only is a helles better in the glass, it's better by the liter in a big honkin' glass .(<----that's for the OP as well)

I don't think the Victory Helles has made its way here yet, but I will be sure to pick some up when it does. The Ballast Point beer wasn't really on my radar, but I will make a point to get some soon enough- so thanks for the rec on that one.

Definitely report back on the Von Trapp beers, I've heard good things. Cheers!

I forgot to mention that I have tried Anchor Steam and liked it. I intend to try Port City's Derecho Commons, also a California commons, and Anchor California Lager, which IIUC is not a California Commons.

I had this for the first time this past week and I'll be picking up more at the first opportunity. I'm hoping to see sixers of their dunkel as well.

Local brewery (Scorched Earth) makes a Zwickelbier that is super tasty. Maybe look into that style as well. BA has a kellerbier/zwickelbier category. Scorched Earth's is more of a hybrid between a Zwickel and a traditional Vienna Lager, according to the head brewer. Very tasty.

No, but many states have do have mandatory deposits on beverage cans and bottles - which were, initially, mostly "anti-litter" laws and, since the old removable "pull tabs" weren't attached to those cans turned in for refund, it probably made some sense at the time to ban them.

Granted, that didn't solve the "crown on ta ground" problem...:grinning:
