I have an appointment next week and I've had previous work done. I hurt my knee years ago (46) and I've toughed through the rest. That I have a hard time going out and playing golf with my son motivates me most. And truly, thank you for your thoughts and opinions.

I saw that and I put it as a want, still feel it is great beer for bourbon barrels.

Finally sitting down to relax for the evening, and thought it was about time to crack open that bottle of Rigor Mortis from Dieu du Ciel that's been waiting in the fridge. One of my favorite breweries, so here goes...

Reddish brown color with a very thin white head. So far, so good.

Lighter aroma than I expected, with fig, plum, brown sugar and winter spices. Bigger taste with the same flavors as the nose up front and a little bite at the end with just slightly more hop bitterness than usual for a quad and some nice warming alcohol. Quite smooth.

Not as complex as the classics, but very well balanced. A delicious sipper and one I'll be coming back to. Wish I had a couple more bottles.

From the bottle: Tommyknocker Maple Brown Ale.
This cola colored ale produces very lil head even when poured aggressively into a snifter glass. Slight aroma of maple syrup and maybe some nuts.
The body is thin and water-like. Not much substance to it at all. Tastes much like the nose, except I detect a faint coffee note on the finish. ABV of 4.5% and IBU of 20... So this drinks like a light beer.
Overall I would give this very low marks. Maybe a 2.5-3 on a 5 scale. Glad I only bought a single. As a six pack...not worth the coin.

    Hey what's going on?!

Well busy fun filled weekend. Spending most of my time in Virginia this weekend, in the Shenandoah Valley at the Red Wing Roots festival. Beer tent was filled with some South Street items which were pretty solid, a particularly memorably Anastasia's Chocolate Fantasy was certainly a hit for myself.

Still tis Sunday, and finally had a chance to kick some time back and check out Harrisonburg for a bit and then a little excursion to West Virginia. Made a good find of some Old Ruffian Barrel Aged Barleywine at a downtown store too, nice little find!

However, since it being Sunday it was time for new brews! So we went on a trip! What was new for our hero today.

Well a trip to Brothers Craft Brewery formerly known as 3 Brothers Brewing.

The Admiral - Brothers Craft Brewing

Brothers Craft Brewing - The Admiral Double IPA
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

Poured on tap at the brewpub into a 5 oz. glass.

A creamy off tan colored topped head presented. Fairly cloudy with a bit of brown amber color and some orange hues.

Real nice aroma. Hints of mix of toast and biscuit malt warmth and basic hop pine. Slight juiced fruit quality in the mix as well.

Palate matches nicely. Mild juiced tropical notes, with excellent biscuit and graham cracker sweetness. Toasty caramel finish almost like a candy apple matching fruit. Excellent mouthfeel juiced, creamy and resinous which is quite an odd match.

Real solid tasting DIPA from these guys!

    look: 3.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

    and...

Imperial Milk Stout - Brothers Craft Brewing

Brother's Craft Brewing - Imperial Milk Stout
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

Poured on tap at the brewpub in Harrisonburg VA into a 5 oz glass.

Dark very walnut brown body and totally opaque. Nice dark coffee to cocoa top colored head. Dissolves a little fast but leaves a thin collar and settles well.

Excellenter coffee and milk like aromas from the glass. Roasting malts and char with a bean like oily sense. Mild lactose quality which I prefer.

Palate comes not unexpected but with some lighter touches. Creamy notes of vanilla, with chewy brownie like coffee and chocolate qualities in mid palate. Not as much a silky finish but comes with a slightly thicker cola sweetness and a faint dull fizzing mouthfeel.

A pretty solid imperial take on a milk stout giving some bigger oomph and control. Still though manages a bit of obtuse sweetness but not too distracting. Seems these imperial milks have some interesting character.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

Back at home now, did a bit of yard work already and felt like digging into some new brews a bit but they are not ready and it's getting late. So till next Sunday!

    Pipeworks Brewing Crimson Snapper
    Double IPA - 9.5% ABV
    Bottled: June 5, 2015

I am really excited to try this beer from Pipeworks, they brew some fantastic IPAs. This double IPA is brewed with honey, blood orange juice, and citra hops.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter. As you can tell from the picture below, this beer is a beautiful reddish orange color with a nice off-white head with solid lacing and retention around the glass. The aroma is fantastic with a ton of citrus from the blood orange juice and citra hops. Also, the nose features a nice hint of sweetness from the honey. The first thought upon sipping this beer is "Wow!". Upfront you get a lot of sweetness from the malt and honey. This makes way for a nice bitter citrusy finish with a lingering bitterness and sweetness. The mouthfeel is damn near perfect for the style. Overall, Crimson Snapper is a fantastic IPA that I thoroughly enjoyed in every aspect. Cheers!

Just spent part of the day at Adroit, and enjoyed the beer you had, amongst a couple others. The Bourbon Tennebris is one of their hits, it appears - the people we shared a table with were giving it high praise as well. Glad to see more people enjoying their stuff.

And yes, their labels are generally pretty cool:slight_smile:.

Good evening NBS, and thanks to @utopiajane for getting us started off today. This weekend I had a wedding for one of my fraternity brothers, so I got to see a few people that I haven't seen in 3-4 years minimum. It was in Clinton Twp, MI; but everyone I knew in the grooms side was from Fort Wayne, IN; so as a result not a overwhelming large turnout of people I knew, but not too bad. I just happen to live 30 minutes from where the Bride's family lives, and that was where it was held. Anyways, it was good to catch up with them.

Yet another restock of new beers this week with the passing of my Birthday, so my Cellar is nearly the fullest capacity it has been yet. Glad so many new things have been coming along. Hideout brewing basically released 20-30 different bombers in the span of 3-4 weeks, so I have plenty of those to go through. A majority of them are spice/fruit combos of sorts, so they should be interesting.

So now onto the new beers of the day:

Very nice IPA. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, mango, pineapple, peach, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine; with some light caramel/toasted bread malts and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine/citrus rind bitter finish. Smooth and sticky/resinous mouthfeel with a touch of bready creaminess. Very drinkable. No astringency from bitterness despite the resinous attributes. I randomly picked up a 6 pack today, because it is fresh and I never see fresh Green flash anymore; and also because it said Citra/Simcoe/Cascade so I was on board with that. Very well done, but only recommended if you like sticky/piney IPAs. 3.9
    [IMG]

A very tasty pale wheat ale. Aromas and flavors of lemon, pear, apple, lavender, honey, wheat, cracker, floral, grass and yeast earthiness. Zero hop or spice bitterness on the finish; great balance between fruity yeast, malt/honey, and lavender spice. Very drinkable, flavorful, and robust. Medium carb/body; moderate amount of wheat creaminess in the mouthfeel. Really enjoyable, though I would have liked to see a bit more complexity from the American wheat yeast; this was overall pretty clean with fairly restrained fruitiness. I'd still drink this again. Very flavorful, balanced, and easy going. 3.78
    [IMG]

This is a Farmhouse IPA featuring Chinook, Citra, Topaz, Centennial, and Mandarina hops. This was realllly damn delicious. Aromas and flavors of big lemon zest, tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, pear, apple, peppercorn, pine, wheat, bread, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of peppery yeast spice and a bit of piney/grassy bitterness on the finish. Very smooth and crisp finish with good carbonation; great all around yeast and hop flavor balance with good pale malt presence. A touch of hop stickiness is present in the mouthfeel after the finish. This was just all around excellent. A saison yeasted Belgian IPA with near perfect balance of yeast and hop character all around. 4.1

So glad to be back for another week, hope to make it a threepeat. So my adventures in PA brought me to Pizza Boy, and I enjoyed a few of their beers, and then of course took home Tired Hands. I regret not bringing home more beer from both Pizza Boy and Tired Hands, but my wife would not have been happy. I will admit, the growler is from last Monday and past Pizza Boy's recommended drink date, but there is no noticeable loss of carbonation. In fact, I opened this yesterday (reviewed today) and it still is well carbonated. Not at all like Tired Hands' reputation. So in the growler is Hop Hands. This is a major wow for me. It reminds me of the kinds of things Carton is doing with hops. Super juicy and tasty. I would stock my fridge with this if I could and drink it all summer. A major wow and hands down the best APA I've ever had. And I personally appreciate the fact that it is not clear, I feel that adds an extra dimension. And anyone who agrees with me with how amazing this is should have a good laugh at the Bros review. This is a nice way to relax before going back to work from my vacation. I can't wait to crack the growler of Saison Hands. Hope all of you have a wonderful NBS!

    Cheers!

    Hill Farmstead Florence Wheat Saison
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22511/61139/?ba=Roguer
    4.3 / +2.4%

Lovely brew. I don't get anything from the wheat, but it's a lovely saison.

    Mystic Melissa Gruit
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24803/154832/?ba=Roguer
    3.86 / +1.3%

Tons of flowers, berries, and dry spices. It's a tough beer to rate; it isn't for my particular palate, but it's superbly executed nonetheless.

Proclamation Harper I American Wild Ale with Apricots
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/33482/156694/?ba=Roguer
    4.19 / -5%

Another home run by Proclamation; they've impressed me every time so far. This brew is tart and sour. I don't get any noticeable apricot presence, but it's a fantastic beer.

    Grassroots Brother Soigne Saison
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/23205/93400/?ba=Roguer
    4.11 / -7.2%

Another fantastic brew. Blood oranges add a nice, noticeable tartness to an otherwise lovely, rustic saison.

    Mystic Entropy Barrel-Aged something-or-other
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24803/75962/?ba=Roguer
    4.06 / +3.3%

Really interesting brew; potent and powerful. Almost no head, and smells of oxidation. However, it's a lovely beer on the palate, with tons of barrel characteristics.

Pretty happy with the way the house is looking now.

You seem to be in the majority on Admiral, whereas I find myself not. I just do not like that beer-tastes like buttered corn or butterscotch to me. One of the few where my palate wants to go its own way. Crazy taste buds
