Well yeah and i agree totally except your example is bad, as historically, BVDL has traded higher than *almost* any stout.
In fact this year, it seems people are giving it away compared to the last five years. I've never seen it go for only three or four bottles unless those bottles were really rare until this year.

@luwak I know what you are talking about but I was just saying just because we are accustomed to VBDL trading for 4 bottles, doesn't mean it's not ****. It's either trade **** or it isn't. Don't cherry pick what you think bottles should or shouldn't go for. That was my point.

Your point is that FO should be trading like an elite beer - everything else you've said just amounts to the fluids and carcass bits flying off of a dead horse as you mercilessly beat it.

I think there was a guy in Chicago that walked away with a couple cases of each at Walgreens this year if I remember correctly.

@Xul It trades whatever it trades for. I am beating whatever dead horse is left because I keep seeing people threadshitting in FO trade threads that either a) have not tried Fundamental Observation or b) are hypocrites. Trade demand happens organically, as can be evidenced by all the FT threads I've posted for FO. Remember guys, don't drink and post. Cheers.

Only chiming in because I've got some spare time this morning at work....otherwise back to lurking!

First off, since you will likely see my location and assume a negative bias: I have 2 FO coming to me this week and I'm excited about it. I offered plenty to get them as I received multiple takers so I'm surely not trying to diminish value here.
*Nooner 9 was 1 case limit with no announcement ahead of time FYI. It doesn't really matter, just thought I'd correct the info.

The reason why many traders, IMO, are having a hard time giving up what many FO owners are asking for is this: it's a BA bottle from a relatively unknown and unproven brewery for BA stouts. Darkstar is the only semi-notable BA release, right? And that isn't exactly in high-demand. To compare to Prop and Cycle bottles from a demand and proven track record is quite the stretch. Not to mention Prop cost quite a bit more.
*Again, I gave up Pallets to get mine OVER $4$, so I really find it funny some are complaining about the value. Pallets had a case limit, sure - but hardly anyone got them and there was less than 500 bottles. They are also great tasting too.

FO could definitely rise in demand and value as more people try it and rate highly and less bottles are available, but to complain about current value out of the gate or that it isn't fetching well-proven and highly rated beers is just...well, I don't know the word. It sounds like whining (no offense) from someone who bought these to trade for the whales they want but aren't getting them yet.

And that's not a horrible or uncommon thing. There are plenty of FL traders shooting for the moon with their Pallets, and Chicago guys holding hostage their Props. But if you bought some of your 6 (or unlimited at dinner!) with the sole intention of trading, and the beer REALLY is THAT good, just hang on to them for a bit and you'll get your Prop...might still have to add for Assassin but I'd wait for the next batch anyways.

In the end, I hope this beer is great and seeing as how I have 2 coming - I won't be rating it poorly (unless it sucks) to hurt one of my own bottles values! And I hope the guy I'm trading with LOVES the Pallets.

    Cheers Cali!

    @Beer4B

I want to clarify that I actually TRADED a DBH for 5 bottles of Fundamental Observation, I didn't buy any. So I'm not trying to land a whale with them, so your observation of me whining is actually incorrect.

It's a little comical considering so many people got so many of these bottles, yet you have to give up good bottles to get them. What does that tell you? If it was bad I'm sure you'd have no problem finding a bunch of traders willing to dump it for a 4 pack of Heady. This is not the case. I honestly just find it interesting how the trading scene evolves for a new beer like this and the way people are reacting to it.

First off, sorry, I should have clarified! I quoted YOUR post but I wasn't meaning to say I thought YOU were whining...there were a few posters early on that I would put in that category. I swear I'd be happy to buy you a pint...or two!

And to your question above: it tells me it's a good beer and that people are going to trade them for other beers they want. Again, I don't have a problem giving up good bottles to get them - as evidence I offered up a Pallet 2 + Blackberry Grove for 1 FO, and then added a Pallet 1 for another. I haven't argued that they SHOULD be trading for less and that you are hoarding them. I'm just surprised to see you and others post saying it SHOULD be trading even higher and alongside some well-proven and highly desired bottles, because it is already trading VERY high considering Bottle Logic's lack of great BA stouts.

On the other hand, your trade of DBH for 5 FO's is ironic to your complaint about people getting crapped on for posting 2 FO for Assassin...you might just be the person to blame for that!:grinning:

@Beer4B haha sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm not saying it should have a defined trade value because honestly, right now I don't know what it trades for. I tried to trade for more but mainly got crickets. The DBH trade was done before the hype got real, so it's one of those early outliers. Look at some of ISO FO posts. Tons of threadshitters who keep reiterating bottle counts and pp limits. Enjoy the beer though, it is good. Cheers.

I'm the one who traded for the DBH and I think that was just a day or two after the release. I ended up trading 3 more for an Assassin '13 a few days later.

I know I will! I've ust got to get a '14 now to do that mini-vert! In any case, I posted that to show the early growth in trade value of FO.

Does anyone know why Eureka (the restaurant) is charging double the price for bottles at the events they are having this week? Im confused on why they are not charging the same price or at least close to the same price as the actual BottleLogic release.

    That's a completely typical bar/restaurant markup.

The cost at Eureka is actually only $30 including the FO & FO glass, or in other words about the price at the brewery release.

It is now. LOL. It was $42 this morning and a new post to all the Eureka IG pages happened about 2 hours ago changing it to $30.
There was quite a bit of outrage on IG.
