    Starbucks coming soon.

I dunno, just means that GF has decided to scale back the production of some of those Alpine beers. Expo being an annual thing like Hopslam and Nelson coming out far less frequently.

Man all this talk made me pop my last bottle of Nelson from my haul last week.

    Cheers…...

Pure and Expo are definitely the most GF style IPAs that Alpine makes so not too surprising. Terrible reading of the market and current trends though.

Interesting take. While I think Pure may be more similar to a GF beer in a very generalized comparison I don't agree with you on Expo, IMHO that is pure uniquely Alpine through and through. Regardless though, you would think they have back up suppliers for certain hop varieties. Scaling back on Nelson which is only brewed I believe once every three weeks is a major blow for everyone. It makes me think that perhaps they have been using only one strain of Nelson Saivin from the same source all these years ? Makes sense in that beers amazingly unique flavor profile and the fact that all other Nelson Sauvin based beers pretty much pale in comparison.

    Cheers…….

There is a Co-Op in NZ that controls the supply of Nelson. For the last few years Alpine has been shorted their allocation of Nelson from said co-op. Since no one else is making these hops they are at the mercy of the Kiwis. GF Nelson is being brewed about every 6-8 weeks now because of this and the fact that GF has many other GF/Alpine beers to brew and only so many tanks. It sucks that Pat and Shawn have been shorted by these guys because they really were the first to use this hop regulary in the US and helped bring it name recognition over here.

I've had 2 growler fills not too bad considering its 1/2 GF but thankfully the other 1/2 is Alpine!

From what I've heard Alpine & GF were working on this for a year+! All started as Alpine "borrowing" GF tank space... I'm sure you're aware that there is no way to give the "true Nelson recipe"...10 barrel to 150 barrel doesn't translate just by simple math. GF distributor want to push more GF using Alpine, i.e you have to buy x amount of GF kegs to get 1 Alpine keg. When push comes to shove $ talks and Alpine walks...with $10mil!

I have to say though out of all the ** Alpine beers Nelson is the best. It's really a tragedy how badly GF butchered Hoppy Birthday & Duet.
(If they are out of Nelson in bottles at the brewery make sure you ask if ** Alpine Nelson)

Lets just hope that when Pat & Shawns non-compete that I'm sure they had to sign ends they put that $10mil to work and we can start drinking CA...Alpine Side Project!

The whole thread is filled with disinformation, confusion, and wild conjecture. But to each his own.

Alpine has been my favorite brewery since the days of enjoying many Pure Hoppiness at The Liars' Club. It was a sad day for me when they started a partnership with GF and was a horrible day when GF bought them. Of all the breweries in San Diego that could screw up Alpine beers I'd put GF at the top of the list. You know Stone, Ballast Point or AleSmith wouldn't be having these issues.

As long as the beers at the pub and brewery are still brewed by Alpine up in Alpine I'll be happy and I'll just remember that most of the Alpine you see down the hill is the crap GF is putting out.

Had a great time yesterday at the new Alpine Restaurant. The food and service were great. Then over to the brewery for growler fills and bottles.

    LOL

I don't have a particularly high opinion of Green Flash at this point, but you can't be serious in assuming that Stone would've magically gotten Alpine's beers dialed in. Hell, even BP and Alesmith possess the brewing knowledge and talent, but it's not as if Chuck Silva and his team are novices. There are forces at work beyond pure brewing talent (eg equipment and process differences, ingredient availability, and business decisions) and assuming that any other major brewery would've knocked all of Alpine's recipes out of the park is delusional.

Mostly agree with you, except that those forces also include commitment to quality control, brand stewardship, and reputational excellence. Along those lines, I would have loved to see Firestone Walker take the reins from Alpine--they did a pretty stellar job with Pliny while RR was installing their new brew house.
