The freshest I've been able to find this in Wisconsin. Less than two weeks old.

I'm a disappointment to most people who meet me :grinning:. Although, I'm not sure I have actually heard that song I was referencing it from Blades of Glory

Well hey again, BA's! Almost 8:30 here in actually-just-beautiful NOVA & it's just about time for dinner & a movie with the GF. I thought I'd pop in & share:

Nothing special, but I'm happy with it :-)

Tunes...thought I'd revisit the jazzy theme from earlier:

Hope everyone's having a great evening! I'll definitely be back for some LNBA action later on.

    Cheers!

Just your typical grocery store pale ale.
Anyone else have the same problem finding this beer littering their supermarket?

Well, I figure they've been in the fridge long enough now -- time to crack open one of the cans I picked up earlier:

Striped Bass Pale Ale from Devil's Backbone. Haven't had this one before. Can't find a canning date anywhere, but since six-packs are still on the shelves I'm guessing this isn't ancient; this Kroger is usually pretty good about rotating out old stuff by the time the best-by date comes around.

And... yep, it is indeed pale! Kind of a nice, shiny darker-golden color to it. A decent bit of foam on top that starts to shrink quick, but leaves a thin layer behind on top for quite a while. Smells... mostly bready, oddly enough. I'm not really picking up much in the way of hops here -- got a little grassiness earlier on when I first opened the can, and am occasionally picking up a faint grassy or leafy kind of thing now too, maybe even the tiniest little hint of something almost lemony? ...But it's mostly bread. Not a bad smell, just expected a little more hoppiness in there from a pale ale.

Taste is also mostly bready -- a nice cracker and bread-crust kind of thing going on. Hop presence is more noticeable in the taste than the smell, though mostly in the form of bitterness, with just a bit of a leafy flavor mixed in and a little bit of piney and almost-lemony flavor that comes out mostly in burps. There's some bitterness right away and also a bit that lingers later on (along with some dry crackery flavor) after swallowing. Would be nice if the hops contributed more flavor in addition to the bitterness, but still pretty decent as-is; I'm liking that crackery thing the malt has going on. Feels pretty nice, and definitely one that's easy to drink pretty quickly -- a bit of a bubbly fuzzy sort of thing, especially earlier on in the glass when the foam layer on top is a bit thicker.

Overall: a nice change from the crappy Busch Signature I've been drinking lately (my taste buds are like "finally, something that actually has hops in it!"... I'm sure they're looking forward to having the first of the new-recipe Northern Lights IPA later this week, also XD), but not one of my favorites from the Devil's Backbone lineup. I do like that crackery flavor from the malt, just wish there was a little more hop flavor to go along with it.
