Pittsburgh - New Beers & Local Breweries

Out of curiosity have you tried some of the hoppy beers that are now getting fruit in them, ie grapefruit sculpin, jungle juice headhunter, citriusness? Wondering if the fruit flavors mask enough of the hop bitterness to make these enjoyable for you. Dont feel bad though I know a number of people that dont like hoppy beers, but it seems yours is more of a bitterness issue.

 

It definitely is a bitterness issue. I'm probably the only person here who's never had Headhunter. I've had Nugget Nectar which I realize isn't an IPA but found it to be really grapefruit heavy and didn't care for it very much either. The only IPA I could really ever drink with much regularity was DFH 90 and I know it's very malt forward as compared to many others.

I just don't think they're my cup of tea, though. I love stouts, barleywines, saisons, tripels, quads, scotch ales, wheat wines and all kinds of sours so it's not as though my focus is insanely narrow.

 

I will reply for the others on this board: You should only drink Head Hunter. It's the only beer worth a crap, all others of any other style are crap.

 

Those two, plus Sierra Nevada.

 

Well, we did have it in 12 oz format...first time I've ever had it so nothing to compare to...but it was not even close to the top of the standings...I'd guess over the hill, probably...REALLY wanted to like it too...even went back for more after everything was revealed and still found it lackluster.

EDIT: won't be able to call you that much longer now that I see you've flipped your location over to PA...but I think I might continue until you like Headhunter...so keep me updated on that progress...

FIS is amazing such a good beer I don't buy cases of beer but a buy a case every year such a solid beer

Yeah if you don't like hops, I could see not liking coffee.....similar bitterness issues.
